‘Hamilton’ Film To Premiere on Disney+ In July

Disney and Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that the filmed version of the original Broadway production of Hamilton will be premiering on Disney+ on July 3rd.  Disney is “fast-tracking” the premiere, which was scheduled to be a theatrical release in October 2021, due to “social distancing” measures brought about by the global COVID-19 pandemic which has changed the original plan.

Hamilton is the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The story is inspired by the 2004 autobiography by Ron Chernow, premiering Off-Broadway at the Public Theater in February 2015, then debuting on Broadway in August of the same year. Hamilton would go on to win 11 Tony Awards, as well as the Pulitzer Prize in Drama.

The version which will air on Disney+ will be of the Original Broadway Cast; their performance was filmed at the Richard Rogers Theatre in June 2016. The cast includes Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jonathan Groff as King George; Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton; and Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Nickelback Drummer Daniel Adair Recovering From Surgery

Nickelback shared the news last week that drummer Daniel Adair has been spending his time during the Covid-19 shutdown recovering from surgery for radial tunnel syndrome. Adair wrote in a tweet shared by the band, “I’ve been off the socials for a bit and thought I should give everybody an update. Over the past several years I have been experiencing increased difficulty with control in my right hand on the drums. After seeing many teachers/specialists and physicians, one of them finally diagnosed the cause.

“Seems I had a pinched nerve in my forearm which caused some of my muscles not to activate, making my wrist twist in a mechanically inaccurate motion. It’s called Radial Tunnel Syndrome and he said it was pretty rare. Don’t know what the cause is, there was no pain or damage.

“So luckily I got minor surgery right before the Covid outbreak happened. They just cut some muscle away and let the nerve breath again. I’ve healed fine and am basically learning how to use my right hand! It’s very exciting though, it’s amazing what one nerve can change. So, personally it’s a great time for me to be in isolation and get my chops together.

He ended with, “Hope everybody is well out there!”

Shinedown’s Brent Smith Clarifies Comments On Summer Tour

Shinedown frontman Brent Smith has released a statement clarifying comments he made in a recent interview regarding the status of the band’s upcoming tour this summer. Smith stated that Shinedown is “not backing off” the group’s scheduled tour, currently set to launch July 31.

“Obviously, our number-one priority is the safety of the public, but we also want the public to know something from us to all of them out there: We are not afraid to play for you,” Smith said. “We wanna do everything safely and we wanna go by the professionals in the medical community and what we’re gonna need to do,” he added. “But you can’t stay inside forever.”

However Smith says that his quotes were “misconstrued..in the midst of trying to stay positive in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “We’d like you all to know that while we can’t wait to play for you and see all of you on the road again, we will only do so when it’s safe,” Smith writes. “The health and wellness of our fans is what’s most important and something we take very seriously.”

“We’ll be ready to perform for you when the time is right,” he adds. “In the meantime, I encourage everyone to take this time to focus on staying healthy mind, body, and spirit, so that when we are able to come back together, we are all the better for this time apart. Stay strong and optimistic — we will get through this together.”
