Anya Taylor-Joy to star in Apple TV+ limited series ‘Lucky’

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy has signed on to star in and executive produce the Apple TV+ limited series, Lucky, based on the best-selling novel by the same name by Marissa Stapley. Apple TV posted on X: “Anya Taylor-Joy confronts a dark criminal past in this adaptation of the New York Times best-seller. Lucky — A new limited series coming to Apple TV+”

A press release reads: “In ‘Lucky,’ Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”

Producer Reese Witherspoon said in a press release: “Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections — to the stories, to the storytellers and to the community we are building. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series — based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel — to audiences around the world.”

SpiritWorld shares video for “Abilene Grime”

SpiritWorld have shared the music video for the song “Abilene Grime”, which was written and directed by Todd Hailstone.

Frontman/founder Stu Folsom shares of the track: “When I wrote the demo for ‘Abilene Grime,’ it felt like the album really found its identity and materialized out of the ethe. It twangs, it bangs and it has a sick video, directed by our dear friend Todd Hailstone, which we filmed in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. Enjoy, everybody!”

In addition, SpiritWorld’s third studio, titled “Helldorado”, drops March 21st release through Century Media. Folsom said of the upcoming album: “This record, more so than the last two, I think you hear way more fearlessness and confidence in the choices. Things that were showing up as interludes have manifested into fully fleshed out pieces. At its heart, Helldorado is a punishing, unrelenting masterclass in crossover and hardcore thrash. But in a scene where every riff has been played before and every great band has thirty contemporary acolytes mining their catalog and doing worship albums, there is something in the strangeness of Helldorado that makes it endearing ‘Godlessness‘ leaves off in a cliffhanger where all the surviving characters have managed to arrive at a villa in Mexico near where a rumored gateway to hell is said to exist. ‘Helldorado‘ is the first glimpse that fans will get into some of what is unfolding in the next novel that I am working on, that tells the story of what happens with these characters and the gates of hell.”

The White Stripes to release deluxe 20th anniversary edition of ‘Get Behind Me Satan’

The White Stripes will release a deluxe, 20th anniversary edition of their 2005 album Get Behind Me Satan, available only via their subscription vinyl service the Vault.

Titled Get Behind Me Satan XX, the release is comprised of various songwriting demos, alternate studio takes, and live versions of the songs found on the album. Get Behind Me Satan XX comes packaged as part of a special two-record set with an additional 7-inch, as well as with a Blu-Ray containing footage of The White Stripes’ 2005 tour of Central and South America shot by David James Swanson. Rounding out the package are an archival booklet containing photos, concert posters, a list of tour dates, and more.

A statement from Third Man Records reads: “Often mistaken as a break-up album, a treatise on fame, or a ‘piano’ album, the record is most accurately described in Jack White’s own words as focused on the truth. The fact that it was in no way Elephant, Part 2 only further confused, infuriated, and/or beguiled many. Twenty years later and the album still stands out for how fresh and how timeless it sounds. In the face of newfound worldwide commercial success, no other contemporary rock band had the stones to introduce mandolin, tympani, hand bells and marimba into their arsenal, let alone embark on deep tours of both Central America and Eastern Europe. But as has long been established, the White Stripes were singular. They were never like anybody else. What enchants now, upon further reflection, is the disparate threads that all came together to make Satan so refreshing.”

Sign up is open now exclusively via Third Man Records’ vinyl subscription service The Vault. Fans looking to pick up their copy of the Get Behind Me Satan XX set can sign up on Third Man Record’s official Vault website and order before January 31st at 12:00 a.m. CST.
