Jane’s Addiction confirm break up in statement, but say they’ve ‘made peace’

Jane’s Addiction has released a joint statement clarifying the circumstances that led to the abrupt cancellation of its 2024 reunion tour, confirming that the band has now formally gone its separate ways.

The group addressed the incident that occurred during a September 2024 performance in Boston, when frontman Perry Farrell struck guitarist Dave Navarro on stage. The show marked the end of the tour and halted plans for a new album. Additionally the fallout from the tour’s cancellation extended beyond the stage — in mid-2025, Navarro, Avery and Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit against Farrell, alleging financial losses tied to the canceled tour; Farrell later filed a countersuit.

In a statement posted to the band’s official Instagram page, Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins and Dave Navarro wrote “We would like to clarify the events surrounding the cancellation of the tour after the show in Boston in September 2024.” According to the statement, the remaining band members made the decision to stop touring without consulting Farrell and later regretted how the situation was publicly characterized: “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret.”

The group said the four original members—Farrell, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins—recently reunited privately to bring closure to the band’s legacy: “Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together  We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are proud of the music we created together. You, the fans, are our lifeblood, and we will always appreciate you.”

Farrell also released an apology, taking responsibility for his behavior during the Boston show: “To everyone in Boston, and around the world. I’d like to address what happened on stage last year. I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.” Farrell emphasized the band’s importance in his life and acknowledged letting fans down: “Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down. My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”

Despite the dissolution of Jane’s Addiction, Navarro, Avery and Perkins have continued collaborating in the studio throughout 2025. The trio is currently recording new material, though it remains unclear whether the project will take the form of a new band or revive their 1990s side project, ‘Deconstruction.’

Nick Reiner makes first court appearance; siblings Jake and Romy make public statement on parents deaths

The children of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have issued their first public statement following the couple’s deaths and the arrest of their brother, Nick Reiner, in connection with the killings.

In a message released through media outlet TMZ, siblings Jake and Romy Reiner said: “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends. We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Prosecutors say the bodies of Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 68, were discovered Sunday afternoon at their Brentwood, California, home. The couple was found around 3:40 p.m., reportedly by their daughter Romy. Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into custody several hours later at the Expo/Vermont Metro station in Exposition Park.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed the official cause of death on Wednesday, stating the Reiners died as the result of multiple sharp force injuries, with the manner of death ruled a homicide

Nick is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders for allegedly stabbing his parents to death. Court documents show Reiner also faces an allegation of using a deadly weapon, a knife. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole or face the death penalty.

Reiner appeared briefly in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday after being medically cleared, but his arraignment was postponed for a second time and is now scheduled for Jan. 7. During the appearance, he did not enter a plea. According to reports, he was handcuffed and dressed in an anti-suicide smock. The only words he spoke in court were, “Yes, your honor.”

His attorney, prominent defense lawyer Alan Jackson, urged restraint following the hearing. “There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case,” Jackson said. “Things need to be thoroughly but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed .. We ask that during this process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward … not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves, and that the family deserves.”

Rob and Michele Reiner were married in May 1989 and shared three children: Jake, 34; Nick, 32; and Romy, 27. Rob Reiner was also the father of Tracy, 61, the daughter of his late ex-wife, Penny Marshall, whom he adopted when they were married.

Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood and Mia McKenna-Bruce cast in ‘The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event’

Sony Pictures has announced additional casting for ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ from director Sam Mendes.

Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, Aimee Lou Wood and Mia McKenna-Bruce will play, respectively, Linda McCartney, Yoko Ono, Pattie Boyd and Maureen Starkey – each of whom married one member of the Fab Four at the height of the band’s fame in the 60s.

Mendes said in a statement: “Maureen, Linda, Yoko and Pattie are four fascinating and unique figures in their own right — and I’m thrilled that we’ve managed to persuade four of the most talented women working in film today to join this amazing adventure.”

  • Linda Eastman met McCartney in 1967 while working as a photographer, and the couple were married in 1969. After the Beatles broke up, Linda was a member of McCartney’s band, Wings, and they remained together until her death from breast cancer in 1998.
  • Ono and Lennon first met in 1966, while Lennon was still married to Cynthia Powell Lennon. They divorced in 1968, and Lennon and Ono married the next year.
  • Boyd was working as a model when she met Harrison on the set of the Beatles’ 1964 film “A Hard Day’s Night.” The couple were married in 1966, and divorced in 1977. (Boyd famously went on to marry Eric Clapton from 1979-1989.)
  • Maureen Cox began dating Starr (real name is Richard Starkey) in 1962. They were married in 1965, and had three children together before divorcing in 1975. Maureen Starkey died from leukemia in 1994.

The filmmakers previously announced the casting for the Fab Four: Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The project has yet announce who will portray Cynthia Lennon, Brian Epstein, George Martin, Ravi Shankar and other key roles.

The four Beatles films will each take the perspective of one member of the Beatles as they climb from unknowns from Liverpool in the early 1960s to the biggest band in the world before their breakup in 1970. It’s the first time that the remaining band members and/or their families have given the music rights to theatrical feature films about them.

‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ is set for theatrical release in April 2028.

Nick Reiner to be charged with first-degree murder for killing of parents Rob and Michele Reiner

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman and Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell announced during a press conference on Tuesday that Nick Reiner will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances for the killings of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their home over the weekend.

Hochman said at the news conference alongside McDonnell that “their loss is beyond tragic and we will commit ourselves to bringing their murderer to justice,” adding that this type of case is “the most serious charge the DA’s office can bring against anyone.” The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, Hochman said, with the DA adding that “no decision at this point has been made with respect to the death penalty.” Hochman said Riener also faces a special allegation that he used a knife in the killings; sources familiar with the case sharing that the couple were found with multiple stab wounds.

Reiner, 32, was not medically cleared to appear in court on Tuesday, according his attorney, Alan Jackson.  Jackson confirmed to reporters outside Los Angeles Superior Court that he was representing Reiner, and that his client would not be making his first court appearance Tuesday because he hadn’t been medically cleared. Reiner is being held without bail at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. “Hopefully he’ll be cleared tomorrow and we can get him here,” Jackson said, though he would not specify what medical issue prevented Reiner from being cleared, only saying it was “procedural.”

Nick Reiner had been living on his parents’ property in a guest house separate from the main structure, but was not at home when his parents’ bodies were discovered. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that he was found in Exposition Park near the University of Southern California on Sunday night thanks to “good, solid police work” and was taken into custody. Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Chief Dominic Choi said at the department’s weekly commission meeting on Tuesday that the Reiners were found dead in the master bedroom of their Brentwood home by their daughter, Romy Reiner. Choi did not give any additional new insights into their deaths.

Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, is a partner at the firm Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP. He has previously represented Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Karen Read, among others, in their high-profile cases. He helped secure an acquittal for Read, who had been charged with murdering her police officer boyfriend in Massachusetts. Jackson represented Spacey in his Massachusetts groping case, which was dismissed when the actor’s accuser dropped their civil complaint; and he was also on the team that defended Weinstein in his California criminal trial. In addition, Jackson successfully prosecuted record producer Phil Spector for murdering actress Lana Clarkson.

Nick has a history of battling addiction and he had spoken publicly about his struggles, which reportedly began when he was a teenager. He has said that he has been in and out of addiction treatment facilities, and spent time homeless and living on the streets. Nick co-wrote – and Rob Reiner directed – the 2016 film ‘Being Charlie’ about the struggles of an addicted son and a famous father. While it was not autobiographical, the film included several elements of their lives.  Just three months ago, Nick was photographed with his parents and siblings at the premiere of his father’s film “Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues.”

New details about the events leading up to the incident have also been revealed. The night before the killings (Saturday, December 13) Nick and his parents attended a holiday party hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, where he was seen being disruptive; with sources stating that Rob and Nick had a “brief but loud” argument.
