The biggest names in rock music join together at tribute concert in London for late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl opened Saturday’s tribute concert to the band’s late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in March at 50 years old. Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia, where the band had a show scheduled.  In an emotional opening speech, Grohl said: “For those of you who knew him personally, you know that no one else could make you smile or laugh or dance or sing like he could. And for those of you that admired him from afar, I’m sure you’ve all felt the same thing. So tonight, we’ve gathered with family and his closest friends, his musical heroes and greatest inspirations, to bring you a gigantic [expletive] night for a gigantic [expletive] person.”

The all-star Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert went on for more than five hours Saturday, closing the night out with an emotional Foo Fighters set at London’s Wembley Stadium, where Grohl fought back tears as the group sang its first song of the night, ‘Times Like These.

Also taking the stage at Wembley Stadium were members of Metallica, Queen, Paul McCartney, AC/DC, plus Nile Rodgers and Liam Gallagher. Travis Barker, Rufus Tiger Taylor and Hawkins’s own teenage son Shane all took turns playing drums with Foo Fighters throughout the evening. Grohl said as the night came to an end:“I hope that you guys felt all the love from all of us and all of the performers because we felt it from you, for Taylor, tonight. I don’t really know what else to say.  This one’s for Taylor. Let’s hear it big and loud for Taylor f**** Hawkins right now,” he said, concluding a great night of music with Foo Fighters’ “Everlong.”

The concert was streamed worldwide on MTV’s YouTube channels. Paramount+ screened the show in the United States. A similar concert is scheduled for Los Angeles later this month, with proceeds from ticket sales from both concerts going towards charities chosen by Hawkins’ family.

Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ reissued after ‘Stranger Things’ success

37 years after its initial release, Kate Bush’s hit track “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” has been reissued as a CD single. The song, which amassed a huge resurgence due to its use in Season 4 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, was originally a part of Bush’s 1985 album “Hounds of Love.”

As described on the website, the CD will feature a “period correct” artwork and a B-side. The single cover features a throwback photo of Bush aiming a bow and arrow. Aside from “Running Up That Hill,” the tracklist also features “Uner the Ivy.” The song is available via Rhino here.

After the single was used on the fourth season of “Stranger Things,” it immediately garnered massive success. In a rare interview with the BBC in June, Bush said she knew the song would gain attention again, but she never imagined it to be this big because “the whole world’s gone mad.  The thought of all these really young people hearing the song for the first time and discovering it is, well, I think it’s very special.”

Shia LaBeouf joins the cast of Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming feature film ‘Megalopolis’

Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming $100 million feature film “Megalopolis” has added actor Shia LaBeouf to the star-studded cast.  Coppola’s passion project, slated to begin production this fall, stars Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight and Laurence Fishburne. Talia Shire (Coppola’s sister who starred in his “Godfather” films), Jason Schwartzman, Grace Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and James Remar have also joined the cast.

Coppola wrote the screenplay for the film in the 1980s, and is financing the dream project himself. The plot has remained largely under wraps, but the film’s official logline teases new details: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.”

LaBeouf’s casting comes after the actor had been blacklisted from Hollywood after musician FKA Twigs, his former romantic partner, filed a lawsuit against him for sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress in 2020. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleged multiple incidents of physical abuse during the couple’s one-year relationship in 2018 and 2019. The lawsuit currently has yet to go to trial.

LaBeouf sought inpatient treatment after the allegations surfaced, and is set to appear in Abel Ferrara’s “Padre Pio,” which will open at the Venice Film Festival’s Venice Days section later this summer.

‘The Goldbergs’ kills off Jeff Garlin’s character ahead of Season 10

The ABC sitcom “The Goldbergs” launches its 10th season this fall, but without Jeff Garlin’s patriarch Murray, who has been killed off. Premiering Sept. 21, Season 10 also introduce a new member to the family, as newlyweds Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Geoff (Sam Lerner) have their first child.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Alex Barnow and Chris Bishop shared how “The Goldbergs” will deal with Garlin’s controversial departure from the series midway through its ninth season. Garlin’s exit was a “mutual agreement” between himself and Sony Pictures Television following an HR investigation into his on-set behavior. Barnow said: “This is going to be a family that has not reconciled the fact that their father’s gone but has sort of moved on and has dealt with a lot of that. So we’re starting with optimism about a baby coming and looking forward to the future. It’s an opportunity for this interesting emotional basis for the way people are behaving.” Bishop added: “It honestly feels like a huge reboot for us. So we have tons of momentum rolling into this new season.”

The series was filming the 15th and 16th episodes of Season 9 when Garlin was suddenly off the show due to the allegations of inappropriate behavior. However, the star still appeared via off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images.

ANTHRAX cancels European tour due to rising costs and logistical issues

Anthrax has cancelled their upcoming European tour due to logistical issues and rising costs. The band states their U.K. tour dates are still on, and that any European ticket holders can be refunded at their point of purchase.

The band wrote on social media: “Sadly due to ongoing logistical issues and 2022 costs that are out of our control, we have no other option but to cancel the European leg of our upcoming 2022 tour. We will however be coming to the UK as scheduled. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.”

Anthrax will still play some shows in the U.K., with Municipal Waste and Sworn Enemy serving as support. The band just finished a U.S. tour with Black Label Society and Hatebreed, but were forced to cancel shows during that slate of dates due to a variety of health and safety issues. The band has been celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and the tour was supposed to be an extension of that celebration.
