‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel Officially Announced With Jennifer Grey Returning

Lionsgate officially announced a new movie set in the Dirty Dancing universe, with Jennifer Grey coming back and executive producing. Jonathan Levine, who most recently directed Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron in last year’s Long Shot will serve as director on the new project, and the script will be written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis, the duo behind 2019’s Five Feet Apart and The Curse of La Llorona

Dirty Dancing was released in 1987, and it immediately became a smash hit, earning $214 million worldwide on just a $5 million budget. The movie won the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Original Song for “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” Grey and Swayze were also nominated for Golden Globes.

The Dirty Dancing franchise has been revisited previously: in 2004, Lionsgate produced Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and in 2017, the studio also produced a made-for-TV remake, which aired on ABC and featured Abigail Breslin, Colt Prattes, Debra Messing and Nicole Scherzinger.

Simon Cowell Undergoes Surgery For Broken Back After Electric Bicycle Accident

Simon Cowell has undergone surgery after having an accident involving an electric bike. The America’s Got Talent creator is said to have broken his back when trying out a new electric bike at his home in Malibu, California.

A rep released a statement saying that Cowell, 60, is “doing fine.” Cowell’s spokesperson said: “Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family. He hurt his back and was taken to hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands.”

Cowell will be skipping America’s Got Talent‘s first two live shows this week as he recovers from surgery. Cowell will be MIA during AGT‘s inaugural live episodes on Tuesday Aug. 11 and Wednesday Aug. 12.

Cowell and his his partner Lauren Silverman have a six-year-old son named Eric together.

Queen + Adam Lambert Re-Release “You Are The Champions” CD And Vinyl Versions To Raise Funds For COVID-19 Relief

Queen + Adam Lambert are releasing a special limited-edition CD and seven-inch vinyl versions of their quarantine track “You Are The Champions” to raise funds for COVID-19 relief.

You Are The Champions” was available for download in April, but is now available on CD and vinyl formats. Only 3,000 copies of “You Are The Champions” will be made and they will be numbered. The limited-edition music will only be made available through Queen’s online store.

The money raised from the sale of the song will again go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization powered by the United Nations Foundation to support frontline workers.  Both Queen and Adam Lambert are waiving all of their royalties from the sales of this single and are donating all revenues they receive from the sales of this single.

Listen To Tom Morello’s Previously Unreleased Song ‘You Belong to Me’

Tom Morello has released “You Belong to Me,” a previously unissued song from his solo project The Nightwatchman.

The track mentions Nat Turner, who led a 1831 slave rebellion in Virginia. Morello wrote in a statement of the song: “Our present is tethered to our past. The overseer’s whip & noose of history are today echoed in the policeman’s baton & pistol. I had a very clear idea I wanted to express with the song & the video and that is: Sometimes, enough is enough.”

Morello has released four albums as The Nightwatchman, including his most recent, 2011’s World Wide Rebel Songs. He has toured and recorded with supergroup Prophets of Rage and released his 2018 solo LP, The Atlas Underground

“Candyman” Filmmaker Nia DaCosta Slated To Direct “Captain Marvel 2”

Candyman director Nia DaCosta has been tapped to helm the Captain Marvel sequel starring Brie Larson. DaCosta will be the first African-American woman to direct a movie in the Marvel Universe.

Captain Marvel debuted in March 2019, grossing $1.1 billion at the box office worldwide. Larson, who also appeared as the character in Avengers: Endgame, will return as the titular character. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed and co-wrote the first Captain Marvel. The new film will take place in the present day after the first one took place in the 1990s.

DaCosta’s Candyman reboot was originally slated to hit theaters this summer but was delayed until Oct. 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic.  It’s unclear when filming of Captain Marvel 2 is expected to begin, but the script has been completed.

Sony To Release Whitney Houston Biopic ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’

Sony and TriStar Pictures have won a bidding war for I Wanna Dance With Somebody, a biopic based on the life of the late Whitney Houston.   The film will be released Thanksgiving of 2022. Bohemian Rhapsody screenwriter Anthony McCarten will pen the script, which will be directed by Stella Meghie.  The movie also has the full support of Whitney‘s estate.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody is “meant to cover her prime as a performer, including her work on The Bodyguard and her legendary performance of the national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl, while alluding to her tragic death in 2012. The film will also feature many of Houston’s hit songs.”

Clive Davis is producing the film, along with Pat Houston on behalf of Whitney’s estate. Clive said in a statement: “From all my personal and professional experience with Whitney from her late teenage years to her tragic, premature death, I know the full Whitney Houston story has not yet been told. I am so glad that Anthony McCarten has committed to a no holds barred, musically rich screenplay that finally reveals the whole Whitney whose vocal genius deeply affected the world while she bravely battled the demons that were to be her undoing.”

Black Sabbath’s Deluxe Edition Of ‘Paranoid’ Album To Be Released For 50th Anniversary

Black Sabbath have announced details of a new edition of the band’s 1970 classic Paranoid.  The super-deluxe version of Paranoid is being released to mark the album’s 50th anniversary, and will now be available as a 5LP set. The release marks their first official outing on vinyl. 

The album is also accompanied by a hardbound book featuring interviews with Ozzy Osborne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, as well as photos, memorabilia, a poster, and a replica of the Paranoid tour program. A 4CD set is also available.

Rolling Stones Release Video For ‘Scarlet’ Featuring Actor Paul Mescal

The Rolling Stones have released the new music video for their previously unreleased song “Scarlet” from their forthcoming “Goat Heads Soup” reissues. The song was recorded in 1974 and features guest appearances from Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page and Blind Faith bassist Rick Grech.

The video stars Emmy-nominated Normal People actor Paul Mescal, and was filmed with a socially distanced shoot at London’s iconic Claridge’s hotel.

The band have expanded their classic album “Goat Heads Soup” for special reissues that will be released in various formats on September 4th.

Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano Reuniting For ‘Who’s The Boss’ Reboot

The classic sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” is coming back, with Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano reprising their father-daughter roles for a reboot of the series that ran from 1984 to 1992. Norman Lear will be the show’s executive producer.

Sony Pictures Television confirmed the reboot, saying in a statement that the new version of Who’s the Boss? “will explore generational differences, as well as opposing world views and parenting styles within the dynamic of a modern family in 2020.”

Milano and Danza also posted the news the news on their own social media pages. “Here we go,” Danza tweeted, and Milano also tweeted that she is “so excited,” adding, “we feel the time is right to tell the story of where these amazing characters are today. Can’t wait to share their stories with you. So happy.”

Danza will reprise his role, but now as a retired housekeeper, while Milano will play a single mother who live in the home where the original series was set. Judith Light and Danny Pintauro, who appeared in the original series, have decided not to return for the new series. Katherine Helmond, who played Light’s mother in the series, died in February 2019 year at the age of 89.
