Elton John and RHCP’s Chad Smith to join Miley Cyrus’ for Metallica covers album

Miley Cyrus‘ upcoming Metallica covers album will feature an all-star lineup of collaborators, including Elton John, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith and more.

Prior to the release of her new album Plastic Hearts, Cyrus revealed that Metallica are one of the bands who inspired the sound on her new rock album. For years, Cyrus has openly expressed her admiration for Metallica — in 2019, she performed the Temple of the Dog classic “Say Hello 2 Heaven” at Chris Cornell’s tribute concert, prompting Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich to give Cyrus a shout-out on Instagram. Later that year, Cyrus performed at Glastonbury and threw in a cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” linked here.

This week, Cyrus said, “I did a Metallica cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ featuring Elton John on piano,” she says. “I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars. I’m so excited about this collaboration. I’m really stoked. I love when ingredients don’t quite fit.”

Bruce Springsteen Promises A ‘Big Surprise’ Coming This Year

Bruce Springsteen is teasing a “big surprise” that will be revealed in 2021. Springsteen said he wouldn’t attempt to tour in 2021, but confirmed he had some more projects underway that would be shared over the course of the year.

Springsteen said, “2022 – if you want to talk about that – as far as what I know and if things go as according to what Dr. Fauci is projecting, as soon as we can, we’ll be out there. And that might be 2022, you know, somewhere in the New Year of 2022. So – and I’m completely projecting because no one really knows – that’s what I think, according to all the information that’s available at this moment, will be able to happen. You know, I have some projects coming up this year that I won’t tell cos it’s going to be a secret and then a big surprise [laughs].”

He added: “But I do have things to keep me busy this year that I’ll be doing that should give the fans something to bide their time with.”

Grammys postpone 2021 Awards Ceremony over increased COVID-19 Concerns

UPDATE: The GRAMMYs have confirmed that the award ceremony has been pushed back to March 14. They said in a statement:  “After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021. The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.

We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors and especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.”

The 2021 Grammys, originally scheduled for January 31st, have been postponed due to concerns over the spread of Covid-19.  It’s unclear if original host Trevor Noah is still set to host this year’s show.  The Grammys had already been planning the show without an audience, only allowing presenters and performers on-site during the show. Nominated artists wouldn’t have been allowed on-site, similar to the 2020 Emmys where nominees appeared and accepted awards remotely.

California has seen a surge in Covid-19 cases following the holiday season, setting a new single-day record of 74,000 new cases on January 4th.
