Elisabeth Moss will star in a new series from FX titled The Veil, a limited series thriller for Hulu.  Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will write the show and executive produce along with Moss, Denise Di Novi, Nina Tassler and Lindsey McManus.

The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost.

FX president of original programming Nick Grad said: “We’re excited to continue our partnership with Steven Knight on The Veil and thrilled to have Elisabeth Moss sign on for the lead role. Steven’s scripts are riveting and no doubt will showcase Elisabeth’s exceptional talent.”

Knight said in a statement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be telling this story, which is truly international and very contemporary. We have gathered together some of the most talented people in the business … I think this will be a landmark television event.”

Eva Longoria is set to star in a new dramedy series at Apple TV+ titled Land of Women.  Deadline reports that the 47-year-old Longoria will also serve as executive producer on the series.

Land of Women, based on the Sandra Barneda novel of the same name, will also co-star Spanish actress Carmen Maura.  The new series follows Gala (Longoria), a woman forced to flee New York with her aging mother Julia (Maura) and her college-age daughter after her husband implicates the family in financial crimes. The trio move to the same charming wine town in Northern Spain that Gala’s mother fled from 50 years ago.

The show will mark Longoria’s first series regular role since the NBC comedy Telenovela.

Selena Gomez is in talks to produce a reboot of the 1988 rom-com Working Girl.  Sources tell Deadline that 20th Century Studios is working on a revival of the film, with Gomez serving as producer. It is unclear if the 30-year-old Gomez will be cast in the film in addition to her producer role, and no additional casting or plot details have been announced. 20th Century Studios has not commented on the rumors.

The original 1988 version of Working Girl, directed by Mike Nichols, starred Harrison Ford, Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver. The film followed a secretary who goes to work for her boss after he is taken out of commission with a broken leg.  Working Girl was a huge success and would go on to be nominated for six Academy Awards, including nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress for Griffith and Best Director for Nichols.  The film brought in $100 million at the domestic box office during its theatrical run.

NBC and the Television Academy said in a press release that Kenan Thompson will host the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards.  The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place Sept. 12 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, airing at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC and also streaming on Peacock.

The 44-year-old Thompson is an actor and comedian who stars on the NBC late-night sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live.  Said Thompson: “Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC — my longtime network family — makes it even more special. Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.”

NBCUniversal television and streaming EVP of live events Jen Neal said in a statement: “Kenan is well-regarded as one of the funniest, likeable and accomplished performers of the last two decades and his tenure on Saturday Night Live speaks for itself. We know he’ll bring an excitement and professionalism to the Emmy Awards that a show of this stature deserves.”

Kenan Thompson To Host 2022 Emmy Awards On NBC & Peacock

Actress Ellen Pompeo will be reducing her starring role on the ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy in order to star in an upcoming limited series for Hulu. Pompeo, who stars as Dr. Meredith Grey, will only appear in eight episodes of Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy, which recently began production. Pompeo will still provide the narration in every episode, and continue to serve as executive producer.

Pompeo will be taking on an undisclosed streaming role, joining an as-of-yet untitled limited series for Hulu. According to Variety, the eight-episode series will follow the true story of Natalia Grace, a Ukrainian scam artist with dwarfism who was adopted by an Indiana couple after pretending to be an eight-year-old girl. The battle between the girl and her adoptive parents will venture across tabloids and courtrooms, and eventually affect their entire marriage. Pompeo will star in the show in addition to executive producing.

Pompeo has portrayed Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy since the series’ premiere in 2005, making her one of the highest-earning television actresses – she earned an estimated $19 million in 2020.

Anne Heche is in a coma following her car crash in Los Angeles over the weekend. The actress’ rep said “At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention. She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”

Heche crashed her blue Mini Cooper car into a home, with video footage showing the vehicle speeding down the street before crashing. According to the LAPD, the vehicle became engulfed in flames, and Heche was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment by an ambulance. The Los Angeles Fire Department said that the vehicle struck and came to rest within the 738-square foot two-story home, causing structural damage and igniting a massive fire.

The incident remains under investigation, and reports say that the Los Angeles Police Department had received a warrant to test Heche’ blood to determine whether she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the accident. Officers believe Heche may have been intoxicated when she plowed her vehicle into the home: “The info we received this morning was a warrant that was obtained the same day as the traffic collision, which was August 5. The warrant was to draw blood, and an investigation is ongoing pending the blood test results. If found intoxicated, [Heche] could be charged with misdemeanor DUI hit and run. No arrests have been made so far.”

Heche’s ex James Tupper, who shares 12-year-old son Atlas with Heche, shared a throwback photo of his ex and their son on Instagram, which he captioned, “Thoughts and prayers for this lovely woman, actress and mother tonight anneheche we love you.”
