‘Beatles: Get Back’ Documentary Postponed Until Next Year

Peter Jackson’s upcoming documentary about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions has been postponed until next year. The Beatles: Get Back, chronicles the group’s rehearsals and performances from January 1969 as it began work on a new album. The movie was originally scheduled to open in September but has now been delayed for almost a year until August 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Beatles: Get Back is just one of several projects that Disney has postponed until next year. The film expands on the Beatles’ original 1970 movie Let It Be, which was envisioned as a TV special before the group changed direction during the making of the album. The Beatles had intended to “get back” to their roots with a new stripped-down record. Jackson’s documentary will include previously unseen footage. Jackson’s movie will also include the entirety of the famous rooftop concert.

Fall Out Boy Donate $100,000 To Support The Black Lives Matter Movement

Fall Out Boy revealed that they have donated $100,000 from the Fall Out Boy Fund to support the Black Lives Matter movement. The money is being donated to National Bail Out and Black Visions Collective.

A statement from the band reads: “When you discover rot deep within your house you don’t just paint over it. You dismantle it and rebuild a better house. We support the back community in the struggle against racial inequality, injustice and police brutality by committing $100,00 from the Fall Out Boy Fund this summer. We will begin with donations to National Bail Out and Black Visions Collective. We realise this is a marathon not a spring and plan to continue and expand our support.

“The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible, and achieve it, generation after generation. – Pearl S. Buck”

The Fall Out Boy Fund was set up back in 2017 with the intention of giving back to the band’s home of Chicago. Earlier this year the band donated $100,000 to support the COVID-19 effort in the city.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced today that, in addition to Lolla, Taste of Chicago, the Air and Water Show, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and many more planned outdoor activities would also not be happening this year.

“We wish we could bring Lollapalooza to Grant Park again this year, but we understand why things can’t move forward as planned,” the festival wrote in a statement. They promise that there will be a “weekend-long virtual event” on the weekend Lolla was supposed to be held, including “performances from around the city and beyond, epic archival sets from Chicago and the festival’s six international editions, never-before-seen footage from the 1990s and much more.”

Surviving Members Of Soundgarden Reunite For Special Release

The surviving members of Soundgarden reunited in the studio last fall for a Record Store Day 2020 EP with Brandi Carlile. Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron were on hand to record new versions of the band’s 1994 smash, “Black Hole Sun”, and 1991’s “Searching With My Good Eye Closed”; they’ll be featured alongside Carlile’s own “A Rooster Says,” which will be released on September 26.

Carlile was also joined by frequent collaborators, twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth. “The twins and I met in the late 90’s in a famous Seattle studio called London Bridge,” explained Carlile. “The guy in the picture with me is Rick Parasher (RIP) and he introduced us. Soundgarden were just gods to us back then. Total pioneers and unreachable to us in every way. We went about making our demos and cleaning the studio when we couldn’t afford the bill never knowing that in November of 2019 we would go back to London Bridge and RECORD TWO SONGS WITH THEM!!

“@chriscornellofficial was as great as a human singer can get and now he’s an angel. Thank you Kim, Ben, and Matt. I’ll never forget this day for as long as I live…. stay tuned!!”

Elvis Costello Returns With New Protest Song Titled ‘No Flag’

Elvis Costello has shared a new song called ‘No Flag.’ The track comes with an animated lyric video, and recorded in February but was released due to the current world unrest.

No Flag is the first new material since Elvis Costello And The Imposters’ 2018 album ‘Look Now’ and was recorded over three days in Helsinki, Finland at Suomenlinnan Studio. “I wanted to go somewhere nobody knew me,” Costello said in a press release. “So, this is ‘The Helsinki Sound’.” Costello also said to “look out for the next installment of this story on July 10,” which suggests more new music is to follow next month.

Tool Officially Cancels 2020 North American Tour

TOOL has canceled all of their 2020 tour dates, confirming they have no plans to try and reschedule them for the rest of this year or even into 2021. An announcement shared to the band’s Facebook revealed they’ve attempted to determine whether pushing their spring and summer 2020 dates back to the upcoming fall months is possible due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, but it doesn’t seem possible as the live events industry remains on indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. TOOL returned to touring last year in support of their 2019 chart-topping studio album, Fear Inoculum.

A statement shared to TOOL’s social media page on reads:

When we played what would be our final show of 2020, March 11 at Portland’s Moda Center, we believed we would be back on the road sometime this Fall. As we worked towards that goal we’ve come to realize that there is absolutely no certainty in re-scheduling dates for this Fall or 2021. State and local ordinances vary widely and no one can predict when high capacity events will safely return.

At the same time that we were working to reschedule this tour, we read your messages. Messages of job losses, illness, emotional and financial pain. We could continue to postpone or reschedule dates for some time into 2021 but ethically, we do not think this is the right course of action. In our opinion, tying up our fans’ money for months, if not a full year, is unfair. With that in mind, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the tour so we can help support the people who have supported us for years.

Fans who purchased tickets through the band or the promoter can expect to receive an email in the coming days confirming the event cancellation and refund details. The band’s last full run of dates took place this past winter prior to the arrival of COVID-19 in North America.
