90-year-old William Shatner will launch into space with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin on Oct. 12

Jeff Bezos’ space travel company, Blue Origin, announced that “Star Trek” actor William Shatner will blast off from West Texas on Oct. 12. The 90-year-old Shatner tweeted: “Yes, it’s true; I’m going to be a ‘rocket man! It’s never too late to experience new things.” He added: “I’ve heard about space for a long time now. I’m taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle.”

Bezos, the founder of Amazon, invited Shatner to fly as its guest. At 90-years-old, Shatner will become the oldest person to go to space. He’ll join three others — two of them paying customers — aboard a Blue Origin capsule. The flight will last just 10 minutes and reach no higher than about 66 miles (106 kilometers). The capsule will parachute back to the desert floor, not far from where it took off.

This will be Blue Origin’s second launch of a crew. Bezos was on the debut flight July 20, taking along his brother, an 18-year-old from the Netherlands and 82-year-old aviation pioneer Wally Funk — the youngest and oldest at the time to fly in space.

Shatner played the role of the USS Enterprise’s commander Captain Kirk for three seasons on Star Trek, from 1966 to 1969. He also portrayed Kirk in seven movies. He’s currently the host and executive producer of a History Channel show, “The UnXplained.”

Motley Crue continues its 40th anniversary celebration with the release of the digital remaster of the band’s second studio album “Shout At The Devil” which include the hit songs “Looks That Kill”, “Too Young To Fall In Love” and title track “Shout At The Devil.” Released in September 1983, Shout At The Devil reached No. 17 on the Billboard 200, moved over four million copies in the U.S. and was certified quadruple platinum in the U.S., triple platinum in Canada and gold in Australia.

The Crue’s 40th anniversary celebrations will culminate with the digital remaster of their album “Too Fast For Love”, arriving exactly 40 years to the original release date of November 10, 1981. The new remasters join the recently released digital remasters of “Dr. Feelgood”, “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Theatre Of Pain”, which kicked off the band’s 40th-anniversary celebrations earlier this year.

Motley Crue’s “The Stadium Tour” with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts was originally scheduled to take place last summer, but ended up being pushed back to 2021 – and then to 2022 – due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Testament, Exodus and Death Angel tour dates postponed until 2022

The Bay Strikes Back Tour, featuring Testament, Exodus and Death Angel, has been postponed until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The trek was set to kick off next week in on Oct. 6 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. and end in late November.

Testament guitarist Eric Peterson said in a press release:  “We were really on the fence with this decision. But seeing other bands make it through with a few mild cases and other bigger bands just cancelling their entire tours, we felt it is in our best interest to postpone these shows to ’22.”  Alex Skolnick added:  “It gives none of us any pleasure to be the bearers of bad news yet again, but here we are. Although Bay Strikes Back is a top tour package for theaters, the reality is this: It can’t afford to take the risks that top grossing larger venue tours have been taking. The type of disruptions KISS and other large outdoor venue tours have experienced could cause our shows to be permanently cancelled – a lose/lose for everyone.”

All three bands will still play Aftershock Festival‘s Thursday night kickoff on Oct. 7 in Sacramento, Calif., and also their November 27 hometown show in Oakland, California.

Positive COVID tests shut down Broadway’s ‘Aladdin’ until Oct. 12

The producers of the Broadway musical Aladdin have announced performances of the show will be canceled through Oct. 10 because of breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among the show’s vaccinated cast and crew. The next planned performance is Oct. 12.

A post on the Aladdin Twitter feed said: “We will continue to provide support to the affected Aladdin company members as they recover. We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this causes ticket holders, but we trust that audiences will agree that safety must be at the forefront of our return to Broadway.”

Aladdin resumed performances just last Tuesday, after Broadway recently reopened after being shut down for more than a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The cast, crew and adult members of the audience have to be fully vaccinated to take part of the show, and audience members also must wear masks in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. Children too young to be vaccinated must show proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test.
