Jessica Biel to star in the Peacock limited series ‘The Good Daughter’

Peacock has ordered the limited series crime drama ‘The Good Daughter’, starring and executive produced by Jessica Biel.  The limited series is adapted from the Karin Slaughter novel “The Good Daughter”; and Slaughter will write all episodes and executive produce.

Biel will portray Charlotte, who survived a violent attack 28 years ago along with her sister, Samantha. The official series synopsis reads: “Sisters Charlotte (Biel) and Samantha Quinn have spent the last twenty-eight years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. Now a lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through one shocking revelation after another. In the end, both she and Samantha find themselves wondering if the price of being the good daughter was worth it after all.”

‘The Good Daughter’ is the second of Slaughter’s novels to be adapted for television by Made Up Stories, who previously produced a series version of her book “Pieces of Her,” which starred Toni Collette and aired on Netflix in March 2022. Slaughter’s ‘Will Trent’ novel series also serves as the basis for the hit ABC series “Will Trent,” which was recently renewed for a third season.

Staind release lyric video for remix of “Better Days” featuring Dorothy

Staind have shared the animated lyric video for the remix of their single “Better Days,” featuring their collaboration with ‘Dorothy’ vocalist, Dorothy Martin. “Better Days” is off Staind’s most recent album ‘Confessions of the Fallen,’ and follows the previously-released singles “Lowest and Me” and “Here and Now”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Active Rock chart.

The remix of ‘Better Days’ with Dorothy marks the first time the band has featured another artist on a song.  Staind frontman Aaron Lewis shares: “This was a departure for me. It’s really the first time Staind explored a feature with a female guest vocalist. Once we started tracking I could tell the synergy was there. We didn’t have to pick harmonies, we didn’t have to analyze parts, they just happened. I’m stoked to have Dorothy on this single with me. Her talent and voice are incredible.”

Adds Dorothy: “I had a great time tracking ‘Better Days.’  It’s a beautiful song and I hope fans connect with it. I’m so grateful to Aaron for the opportunity.” (per Blabbermouth.)

Mötley Crüe share their new single, “Dogs of War”

Mötley Crüe have dropped the single “Dogs of War,” their first new song in five years. The track also marks the Crüe’s first release since their new guitarist John 5 joined the band, following the retirement of Mick Mars. The band last released new music for the soundtrack to their 2019 biopic The Dirt – which also included the Machine Gun Kelly collaboration, The Dirt (Est. 1981).

Bassist Nikki Sixx says of ‘Dogs of War’: “It’s always great getting back in the studio with the guys in the band. We know you’re gonna like this one.”  Frontman Vince Neil adds: “I think it’s classic Crüe, if you go back and listen to the first record [1981’s Too Fast For Love]. To me, it goes back to our roots. I think the fans are going to dig it. It’s a rock‘n’roll tune for partying, screamin’ and yellin’ along. That’s what Mötley Crüe is about anyway. It doesn’t seem like any time has passed. We’re still just a good rock ‘n’ roll band.”

“Dogs of War” was released alongside an accompanying video, which features animated, anthropomorphic doberman dogs and pigs in suits. Said Neil of the visual: “We’re the Dogs Of War, we’re the b*stards. We’re in battle with everybody, all the time.”

Taylor Swift makes history with 14th No. 1 on Billboard 200 with ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department’ has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated May 4, earning the superstar her 14th chart-topping album. Billboard reports that “TTPD” debuted with 2.61 million equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending April 25, with 1.914 million units traditional album sales (vinyl purchases alone representing 859,000) and on-demand streams of 891.34 million units. The album also made history with the largest streaming week for an album, ever – and the second-largest week for an album in general since the Billboard 200 started measuring by units in December 2014. It also is the third-largest sales week since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991, and the largest sales week for an album on vinyl in the modern era.

Swift is now tied with Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums among soloists in the nearly-70-year history of the Billboard chart, second to The Beatles, with 19 No. 1s overall.  Swift herself reacted to the record-breaking success of ‘TTPD’ in a post on social media, writing on Instagram beneath a carousel of polaroids from the recording process: “My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed. I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough 🤍 — Taylor Swift, the Chairman of TTPD 🤍💿

Additionally, Swift’s song “Fortnight” (featuring Post Malone) has landed on top of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her seventh Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 debut, and her 12th overall No. 1 on the chart.  Swift also became the only artist in history to hold the entire top 14 on the Hot 100 with tracks off “TTPD”, and she’s broken the record for most consecutive new albums with a Hot 100 No. 1 hit (with eight), as well as breaking the record for most simultaneous Hot 100 debuts (with 31).

Just days after “TTPD” dropped on April 19, (along with the surprise accompanying LP, The Anthology), Swift broke her own record for most weekly vinyl album sales, moving 700,000 copies, and about 1.5 million U.S. sales after the three-day period across all formats. The album also became the first album to hit one billion Spotify streams within its first week, beating a record that was previously held by Swift’s last album, Midnights.
