2023 Grammy Awards nominations are revealed: Beyoncé leads the list of nominees

The Recording Academy has revealed the nominations for the 2023 Grammy Awards. The nominees were announced by Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr., John Legend, Machine Gun Kelly, Olivia Rodrigo, and other musical artists during a livestream event held on Tuesday.

Beyoncé leads the nominees with nine nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance. The 2023 nominations bring Beyoncé’s lifetime total to 88 nominations, tying with her husband, rapper Jay-Z, for the most nominations in Grammy history.

Kendrick Lamar follows with eight nominations, including Album of the Year for Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, his first album in five years. Adele and Brandi Carlile both have seven nominations, and artists including Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Mary J. Blige, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny and BTS each earned multiple nominations.

The 65th Annual Grammy Award ceremony will take place Feb. 5 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and air on CBS. The event will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.  For the complete list of 2023 nominees, head here.

Jay Leno suffers severe facial burns after car erupts into flames in garage

Comedian and former ‘Tonight Show’ host Jay Leno was seriously burned in a garage fire in Los Angeles on Saturday after one of his cars erupted in flames. People Magazine was first to initially report that Leno canceled an appearance at a Forum 2022 financial conference in Las Vegas Sunday night after suffering “a very serious medical emergency.”

TMZ reported that the 72-year-old was taken to the Grossman Burn Center after suffering burns to the left side of his face, and all of his appearances for the week have been canceled. He is said to be in stable condition.

Leno said in a statement to NBC News on Monday: “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”  A representative for Leno said he was working at his Los Angeles garage when a flash fire started in a car.

‘Days of our Lives’ legend John Aniston passes away at 89

Actor John Aniston, who portrayed Victor Kiriakis of the soap opera ‘Days of our Lives’ for over three and half decades, has died at the age of 89.

Aniston’s daughter, actress Jennifer Aniston, shared the news Instagram, revealing her father passed away this past Friday. In tribute to him, Jennifer shared photos through the years with her dad with the caption: “Sweet papa…⁣ John Anthony Aniston . You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew. I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace – and without pain. And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now 🕊I’ll love you till the end of time💔⁣ Don’t forget to visit 💫🤗❤

Since 1985, Aniston had portrayed Victor Kiriakis on DAYS. He also appeared on the soaps Search for Tomorrow and Love of Live, and made guest appearances on hit TV shows such as The West Wing, Gilmore Girls, Star Trek: Voyager, Mad Men, and many more. This past summer at the 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, John received the Lifetime Achievement Award and was celebrated in a videotaped message by his daughter, Jennifer; though he was not present at the ceremony. Aniston was just seen on DAYS during last Friday’s episode of the soap currently streaming on Peacock. Upon the news of his passing, the official Days of our Lives Twitter handle shared a video along with these sentiments: “Our hearts are broken over the loss of our beloved family member John Aniston. We love you John. Your legend will live on.”

John is survived by his wife, actress Sherry Rooney, and their 33-year-old son, Alex Aniston, as well as Jennifer (who she shared with his first wife, the late Nancy Dow).

Foreigner to launch North American leg of farewell tour in 2023

Foreigner is going on tour for a final time in 2023, announcing they will be hitting the road next summer for a North American leg of their ‘Historic Farewell Tour,’ featuring support from Loverboy. The band will kick off the first leg of the farewell tour on July 6, 2023, at Atlanta’s Ameris Bank Amphitheatre before wrapping up on September 3rd in Holmdel, NJ at the PNC Bank Arts Center.

Foreigner was co-founded by guitarist Mick Jones in 1976. Today, the group consists of Jones, Jeff Pilson, Kelly Hansen, Michael Bluestein, Bruce Watson, Chris Frazier and Luis Maldonado. Jones had this to say of the farewell tour: “Many years ago, I wrote a song called ‘Feels Like The First Time’ and today we are launching one last worldwide tour. We will be presenting a show that I know will have the same enthusiasm as our very first appearances. The tour will start this summer in America and we hope to get to every place that we have played over the last several years. While I’m sure our fans will have mixed feelings about the end of the road for the band, I know our shows are going to delight audiences everywhere.”

Frontman Kelly Hansen shared, “The time has come. We have more or less lived our lives on the road for almost eighteen years. We have always strived to give you our best and we intend to finish this the same way. Foreigner has a brilliant and increasingly demanding catalogue of songs to sing and I refuse to give them less than they deserve. So, we’re going to finish strong. I want to make it very clear how grateful and appreciative we are to our audiences all over the world who have supported this band. I’m sure there may be occasions when we’ll do some special appearances, but I think the time is coming for us to live off the road. Thank you all so much!”

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo to join PINK on her newly-announced 2023 stadium tour

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will be joining PINK as special guests on select shows of her newly-announced ‘Summer Carnival’ stadium tour.

The tour will kick off on July 24 in Toronto, with Brandi Carlile first serving as the supporting act. A week later on July 31, Benatar and Giraldo will join the tour and perform at Boston’s Fenway Park, and will then appear on five more tour dates: Washington, D.C., Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee and Los Angeles.

Pink and Carlile were on hand when Benatar and Giraldo were recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Married since 1982, Benatar and Giraldo shared their gratitude for the honor. Said Benatar to Giraldo: “you — my partner, my love. Forty-three years ago in a rehearsal studio in New York — could you have imagined this night tonight? We probably would have done it separately on our own, in our own way, but it never would have been this much fun.”

Take a look at Keanu Reeves in the trailer for ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’

The official trailer for filmmaker Chad Stahelski‘s ‘John Wick: Chapter 4′ has been released, starring Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin. Reeves has appeared in the John Wick franchise since 2014; he last played the action hero in 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum. 

The new film has Wick facing off against Bill Skarsgård‘s Marquis de Gramont in a fight for his freedom. Aside from Reeves and Skarsgård, the film stars Donnie Yen, Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins and Clancy Brown. Ian McShane will return in his role as Winston, the Continental Hotel’s manager.

Daniel Kaluuya joins the voice cast of sequel film ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

Daniel Kaluuya has joined the voice cast of Sony Pictures animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The original film told the story of Brooklyn teenager Miles, who’s given spidey powers following Peter Parker’s death. The 2018 film grossed $375.5 million worldwide and won the Oscar for ‘Best Animated Feature’ at the 91st Academy Awards.

The sequel film will see Kaluuya voice the character of Hobart “Hobie” Brown, a.k.a. Spider-Punk, who was introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #10 in 2015.  The cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee. Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Joma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Jason Schwartzman.

Directed by Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2023 and will precede the trilogy’s third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to be released March 29, 2024.

Paul McCartney to release career-spanning ‘7” singles’ vinyl collection

Paul McCartney has compiled 80 singles for a new box set of 7″ vinyl, set for release on December 2 and limited to 3,000 copies.

The 7″ Singles comes in a wooden crate and comprises 163 songs released between 1971 and 2019; 65 of the singles come with restored original artwork and the same B-sides, and the remaining 15 were previously unreleased on 7″. In a press release, McCartney said, “I hope the songs in this box set bring back fun memories for you too. They do for me, and there will be more to come….” All the tracks were remastered and cut at Abbey Road.

Guitarist Keith Levene, co-founder of The Clash and Public Image Ltd, dies at 65

Guitarist Keith Levene, co-founder of The Clash and Public Image Ltd, has died at the age of 65. According to an article in The Guardian, Levene had been battling liver cancer.

Author Adam Hammond confirmed the news. Hammond tweeted: “It is with great sadness I report that my close friend and legendary Public Image Limited guitarist Keith Levene passed away on Friday, 11th November. Our thoughts and love go out to his partner Kate, sister Jill, and all of Keith’s family and friends. The world is a darker place without his genius. Mine will be darker without my mate.”

Former Public Image Ltd drummer Martin Atkins posted to Twitter: “A sad time to learn of the passing of guitar giant Keith Levene. We had our ups and downs that had mellowed over time. My respect for his unique talent never will.”  Levene’s partner Kate Ransford also tweeted :“RIP keith levene My beloved partner who passed away at our home on 11/11/22 peacefully, painfree ,cosy n well loved .he was an iconic guitarist and composer my best friend, my love, my everything, I love you to the moon 🥰🥰

Born Julian Keith Levene on July 18, 1957 in London, England, Levene started as a roadie for Yes before forming The Clash alongside vocalist/guitarist Mick Jones, vocalist Joe Strummer, drummer Terry Chimes and bassist Paul Simonon.  He was let go only a few months after he joined (and didn’t appear on 1977’s self-titled debut LP), but co-wrote one of its tracks: “What’s My Name.”  In 1978, Levene and Sex Pistols frontman John “Johnny Rotten” Lydon started post-punk/new wave troupe Public Image Ltd., playing multiple instruments on the band’s first three LPs before departing in 1983.

Amazon’s ‘Carnival Row’ to end after Season 2

Amazon’s Carnival Row, the fantasy drama series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne that last aired in August 2019, will end with its previously announced second season on Prime Video. The series will return for its final 10 episodes, airing weekly, beginning on Feb. 17, 2023.   The show tweeted the news: “Soon, everything will fall into place. Return to the Row for the epic final season, premiering February 17.”

Amazon renewed Carnival Row for a second season a month before it debuted, but it received mixed reviews from critics from the start. The drama has a 57 percent score among critics and 87 percent rating with viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
