Paramore, Foo Fighters, The Lumineers to headline Boston Calling 2023

The 2023 Boston Calling Music Festival has announced its 2023 lineup, scheduled to take place during Memorial Day Weekend, from May 26 -28, at the Harvard Athletic Complex.  Headliners include Foo Fighters and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Friday; The Lumineers and Alanis Morissette on Saturday; and Paramore and Queens of the Stone Age on Sunday.

Boston Calling will also feature more than 50 acts, including 20 artists with local affiliations. Also on the bill, the National, Flaming Lips, the Walkmen, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Bleachers, 070 Shake, the Linda Lindas, Maren Morris, Niall Horan, Chelsea Cutler, Teddy Swims, Noah Kahan, Mt. Joy, Fletcher, Genesis Owusu, Declan McKenna and the Aces are slated to perform throughout the three-day event.

Sonic Temple 2023 lineup to feature Tool, Foo Fighters and Avenged Sevenfold

Ohio’s Sonic Temple Art and Music Festival is returning in 2023 for the first time in three years, and the full lineup has just been revealed, featuring Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, KISS and Foo Fighters (in one of their first performances as a group since the death of Taylor Hawkins last year.)

Sonic Temple will take place at Columbus’ Historic Crew Stadium on Thursday, May 25 through Sunday, May 28. In addition to the aforementioned acts, Godsmack, Queens of the Stone Age, Rob Zombie and Deftones will serve as the other headliners during the four-day event.

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck dies at 78

Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Jeff Beck died Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the age of 78. The news was confirmed in a statement issued by Beck’s publicist that read: “On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

The guitarist, born Gregory Arnold Beck in Wallington, Surrey, England, attended the Wimbledon College of Art. He began playing guitar in several different groups and by 1964, he garnered work as a session guitarist. In 1965 was recruited to follow Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds on the recommendation of Jimmy Page. After splitting with the Yardbirds, Beck went on to perform solo until he formed the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano and Aynsley Dunbar on drums. The group recorded a pair of albums before dissolving in 1969.

Beck recorded 14 studio albums, the most recent being 2016’s Loud Hailer. He was also part of four collaborative albums, including a 2022 record with Johnny Depp titled 18, and performed on the title track of Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9 album.  The guitarist received eight Grammy Awards, while being nominated for 16 Grammys. Beck was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, as a member of The Yardbirds and also as a solo artist.

Beck is survived by his wife, Sandra Beck.

AMC shares details for ‘Walking Dead’ universe spinoffs

AMC the release date for Season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead and detailed the new spinoffs in The Walking Dead universe. The network said in a press release that the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead will premiere May 14 at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC and AMC+. Season 8 will be split into two parts consisting of six episodes each; Part 2 will premiere later this year.

The new Walking Dead spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere in June. The show will see Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their Walking Dead roles of Maggie Greene and Negan. Another new spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (starring Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon), will be released later this year.  Additionally, a spinoff series starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as Rick Grimes and Michonne will begin production this year, set to premiere in 2024.

AMC Networks president of entertainment Dan McDermott said: “It’s a truly exciting year for ‘The Walking Dead Universe,’ as we conclude an epic journey on ‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ which became one of the most successful shows in the history of cable television. And now we are set to bring forth the next iteration of the franchise — two new and anticipated series featuring the beloved characters of Maggie, Negan and Daryl. Fans new and old will love seeing zombies walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, beneath the Eiffel Tower, inside the Louvre, and at dozens more exotic and iconic locations from around the country and world.”

2023 SAG Awards Nominations: See the full list of nominees

SAG-AFTRA revealed the nominees on Wednesday for the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards via SAG’s Instagram page. SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher and SAG Awards committee members Jason George and Elizabeth McLaughlin kicked off the virtual announcement, with Emily in Paris star Ashley Park and The White Lotus‘ Haley Lu Richardson announcing the nominees.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Banshees of Inisherin” lead the film field with five nominations each, including Ensemble Cast. “The Fabelmans” notched two nominations, while “Babylon” and “Women Talking” each earned an Ensemble Cast nomination.

The 29th annual SAG Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 26, at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, and will stream live on Netflix’s YouTube channel at 8 p.m. ET.  For the full list of nominees, head here.

Foo Fighters, Paramore, and Korn part of 2023 Bonnaroo Festival lineup

Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar, and ODESZA have been announced as headliners for this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Paramore, Lil Nas X, My Morning Jacket, Sheryl Crow, Korn, Baby Keem and Paris Jackson will also perform at the four-day event on June 15-18.

The festival takes place on the Bonnaroo Farm in Manchester, Tennessee and will feature more than 150 performances throughout the long weekend. Other performers include Three 6 Mafia, Marcus Mumford, Alesso, Portugal. The Man, Jacob Collier, Tyler Childers, Big Freedia, J.I.D, 070 Shake, Sofi Tukker, Amber Mark and Girl In Red.

For the 2023 edition of Bonnaroo, fans will also be able to catch the festival through Hulu’s subscription video-on-demand tier, along with Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. The deal will give subscribers access to live streams of various performances as well as bonus behind-the-scenes footage at no additional cost. Presale tickets for the festival become available on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. CT for fans who sign up for access at Bonnaroo’s website. At a later date, tickets will go on sale for the general public.

Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe to perform intimate show in Hollywood, FL

Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe have announced another joint intimate show, taking place at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL on Sunday, March 12th for one night only. The two bands will perform two special nights in Atlantic City, NJ on February 10-11, marking the first shows ever with new Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 who’s replacing Mick Mars after retiring from the road due to his health.

Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe will then launch their co-headlining The World Tour along with special guest Alice Cooper on Saturday, February 18th at Foro Sol in Mexico City.  The tour will travel across the globe with stops throughout Latin America before heading to play many European festivals in May 2023. They trek will then revisit the U.S. in August with stops in Syracuse, Columbus, Fargo, Omaha, Tulsa, and El Paso.

General tickets go on sale Friday, January 13th at 10 am local time via Ticketmaster.

2023 Golden Globe Awards: See the full list of winners

The 2023 Golden Globes ceremony was held on Tuesday night at the Beverly Hilton, hosted by Jerrod Carmichael and airing live on NBC and Peacock.

The 80th edition of the ceremony saw The Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin taking top honors in film, while Abbott Elementary, House of the Dragon and The White Lotus among the biggest winners in television.

Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Angela Bassett, Ke Huy Quan, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Coolidge, Steven Spielberg, Michelle Yeoh, Julia Garner, Zendaya, Guillermo del Toro, Cate Blanchett and Austin Butler were among the individual winners.

Eddie Murphy received the 2023 Cecil B. DeMille Award for “an entertainment career that spans five decades,” while Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy was recognized with the Carol Burnett Award for “his body of work and the lasting impact of his television career.”

Take a look at the trailer for ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

Marvel Entertainment has released a new 2-minute trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the titular characters.

The trailer features Ant-Man and the Wasp, along with the Wasp’s scientist parents Hank (Michael Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), as they explore the Quantum Realm and clash with adversary Kang (Jonathan Majors). Kang seems to betray the group after making a deal with Ant-Man to restore the time he lost during Thanos’ Blip, which made half of all life in the universe disappear for several years. Kang and Ant-Man are seen fighting in the latest clip.

Take a look at the trailer for Season 4 of Netflix’s ‘You’

Netflix has shared a trailer for Season 4, Part 1 of the psychological thriller ‘You.’ 

‘You,’ based on the Caroline Kepnes book series, follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a fictional serial killer with obsessive tendencies. The Season 4 cast of ‘You’ also includes Tati Gabrielle, Lukas Gage, Tilly Keeper, Amy Leigh Hickman and Ed Speelers.

The Season 4 trailer shows Joe assuming a new persona as a university professor in London. He falls in with “the most insane, damaged people on Earth” at the school and develops an obsession with a new woman. Later scenes show Joe become the hunted and receive mysterious messages from a stalker. An official description reads: “New year, new country, new persona — and yet Joe can’t seem to shake off his past.”
