Depeche Mode confirms LP release date, shares new song ‘Ghosts Again’

Depeche Mode’s new album, Memento Mori, is coming this spring, and the band just confirmed a release date of March 24th.  Depeche Mode also shared the album’s first single, “Ghosts Again,” and an accompanying black-and-white video directed by longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn.

Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore says of ‘Ghosts Again’: “It’s got such an upbeat feel to it and we’ve listened to it thousands of times and we keep saying we don’t ever get bored with it, so that’s got to be a good thing.”  Added David Gahan, “To me, ‘Ghosts Again’ just captures this perfect balance of melancholy and joy.”

Memento Mori is the follow-up to 2017’s Spirit, and while Gore shared that Memori Mento means “Remember you must die,” he said it isn’t meant ominously: “I don’t think it’s a morbid title.” Gore said, adding, “I like to look at it positively, like, ‘Make the most of your life. Life’s short.’”

Watch Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Viola Davis in trailer for ‘Air’

The upcoming film “Air,” which tells the story of the creation of one of the most iconic pieces of footwear in history — Nike’s Air Jordan — has shared it’s first trailer.

Inspired by true events, the film is directed by Ben Affleck, who also stars alongside Matt Damon. Damon takes on the role of sneaker company executive Sonny Vaccaro, who lobbies Nike co-founder Phil Knight (portrayed by Affleck), with an idea to put the company on the map: creating “the greatest basketball shoe that’s ever been made,” built around a then-unknown college basketball player named Michael Jordan.

The trailer shows Damon’s Vaccaro courting Jordan’s mom Deloris, played by Viola Davis, all while trying to convince the company he’s not out of his mind.  The trailer closes with Affleck’s Knight asking of the shoe, “Got a name for it?” and Damon’s character replying “Air Jordan,” to which Affleck replies, “I dunno. Maybe it’ll grow on me.”

“Air” also stars Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker and Marlon Wayans, and hits theaters April 5.  You can check out the trailer – here.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs share video for ‘Blacktop’ and announce new tour

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have shared a new music video for their single, “Blacktop,” from the group’s 2022 album, Cool It Down.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O said in a press release: “‘Blacktop’ stuck out to me early on, the demo was very stripped down instrumentally and emotionally. It was a step towards what radical closeness feels like after a long separation. Each record has one of these diamonds in the rough that just feels like flying to me. It felt right to keep the video as stripped down and dare I say beautiful in its naïveté. David Black put us in front of his 70s analog video camera with the intention to pull stills for band shots. He had me sing to ‘Blacktop’ before I had even memorized the lyrics, I thought I knew the song by heart but it felt like an introduction, like meeting it for the first time. It wasn’t intended to end up as a video and as a return to the earliest visuals from the record it completes a circle, we’re so happy we have it, a simple layered performance for a deceptively simple song.” You can take a look at the new video for “Blacktop” – here.

The band also announced they are officially heading out on tour this spring and summer, with shows booked in the U.S. and Europe in support of their album, Cool It Down. The band will be joined by Perfume Genius and The Faint on the road. Tickets are currently on sale now via Ticketmaster.
