Smashed Fender guitar by Kurt Cobain sells for nearly $600,000

A guitar smashed by late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in the early 1990s was sold at an auction for nearly $600,000 – over 10 times of its estimated price. The busted black Fender Stratocaster was sold at the auction at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York and acquired for $596,900 by a buyer, whose identity is not known. According to the auction house, Cobain gave the guitar to his friend and musical collaborator Mark Lanegan (who died last year) during the North American leg of Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1992.

Cobain, who took his own life in 1994, destroyed the guitar as Nirvana was working on their break-out album Nevermind in the early 1990s. The instrument has been put back together but is no longer playable; it is signed by all three band members (Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl) in a silver marker. It also features an affectionate inscription by Cobain to Lanegan, and is signed by Cobain — who often misspelt his own name — as “Kurdt Kobain”.

Foo Fighters reveal Josh Freese as the band’s new live drummer

Foo Fighters have revealed Josh Freese as their new live drummer. The band shared their new touring lineup over the weekend during a pre-tour streaming event called Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts.” Freese replaces longtime Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 50. Foo Fighters’ new album, ‘But Here We Are’, is dedicated to Hawkins.

The Foos teased other potential replacements in a funny skit prior to revealing Freese as their new live drummer, that featured appearances from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Tool’s Danny Carey, and Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe.

Freeze has drummed for everyone from Vandals to Devo to Nine Inch Nails to Sting; he also participated in Foo Fighters’ tribute shows to Hawkins last fall, joining the band on drums for “Times Like These” and “All My Life.”

Foo Fighters will kick off a tour that includes festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Louder Than Life, Austin City Limits, and Riot Fest, as well as headlining dates with support from The Breeders.

Jamie Foxx and daughter Corinne to host musical celebrity game show ‘We Are Family’

Jamie Foxx and his daughter Corinne Foxx are set to host the brand new game show ‘We Are Family’.  Jamie and Corinne Foxx said in a joint statement: “We are thrilled to be developing We Are Family with Jeff Apploff and our friends at Fox Entertainment after so much success with six seasons of Beat Shazam. We hope this show brings as much fun to audiences at home as we’ve had creating it when it premieres next year.”  This marks the second game show the father/daughter duo will host for Fox. They also cohost ‘Beat Shazam’, which returns for its sixth season on Tuesday, May 23.

We Are Family will see non-famous relatives of celebrities performing duets with their hidden famous family member while a studio audience comprised of 100 contestants plays through multiple rounds of clues and gameplay. Players can win up to $100,000 each by correctly guessing which celebrity the performer is related to before they are revealed. Celebrities appearing on We Are Family will range from actors and musicians to professional athletes and more. The series will be co-produced by Apploff Entertainment and Fox’s in-house unscripted studio, Fox Alternative Entertainment, which created the program. Jeff Apploff and Jamie Foxx will executive produce, with Matilda Zoltowski serving as showrunner and exec producer.

Jamie was recently hospitalized following a health scare while in Atlanta filming the Netflix movie Back in Action; at the time, Corinne announced in an Instagram post that her dad had “experienced a medical complication.” Last week, Corinne shared an update on her father’s health, addressing false rumors: “Update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!”
