Black Crowes announce first LP since 2010, share new music

The Black Crowes announced they will release a new album, Happiness Bastards, on March 15 – their first new music since 2010. The band have released a new song “Wanting and Waiting,” which you can listen to: here.

Happiness Bastards marks The Black Crowes first album of all original material since 2009’s Before the Frost…Until the Freeze. The band’s most recent release was 2022’s 1972, a six-track LP of covers that arrived three years after brothers Chris and Rich Robinson reunited.

A statement on the album pre-order page reads: “The Black Crowes are leaving the bullshit in the past. Some may say the project has been several tumultuous years in the making, but we argue it’s arriving at just the right time. Call it brotherly love or music destiny that brought them back together, the highly anticipated record consecrating the reunion of this legendary band just may be the thing that saves rock & roll. In a time where the art form is buried beneath the corporate sheen of its successors, the Black Crowes are biting back with the angst of words left unsaid penned on paper and electrified by guitar strings, revealing stripped, bare-boned rock & roll. No gloss, no glitter, just rhythm and blues at its very best – gritty, loud and in your face.”  According to the statement, the Black Crowes entered the studio in early 2023 with longtime bassist Sven Pipien and producer Jay Joyce.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” becomes highest-grossing concert film of all time

Taylor Swift has earned another milestone with the release of her film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” to North American theaters on October 13, 2023. “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie is officially the highest-grossing film in box office history among concert and documentary films with more than $261.6 million earned globally.

“The Eras Tour” now becomes the highest-grossing concert film, unseating previous record holder “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” which opened in 2009 and grossed $261.2 million at the global box office. Upon its release in October, “The Eras Tour” made $92.8 million in North America and $30.7 million internationally for a cumulative total of $123.5 million, making it the biggest start of all time for a concert film. It unseated 2011’s “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which earned $73 million in that same timeframe.

Instead of opting for distribution from a major studio, Swift partnered with AMC Theatres, the world’s largest cinema chain, which allowed Swift (a producer on the movie) to earn about 57% of ticket sales, while theaters kept the remaining revenue and AMC took a small distribution fee. AMC didn’t exclusively screen the film, though, as it played in 3,855 theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada and 4,527 venues internationally.

AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said of Swift’s latest accomplishment: “On behalf of all of us at AMC Theatres, I send my congratulations and eternal gratitude to Taylor Swift for her remarkable and record-setting box office performance with ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour‘ concert film. Her spectacular performance delighted fans around the world and serves as another strong reminder about the power of extraordinary filmmaking and magic of movie theaters.”

Swift plans to resume her Eras Tour on Feb. 7 with a four-night stint at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. She’ll tour the world throughout the year, concluding the trek in Vancouver, BC in December.

Sheryl Crow shares video for ‘Alarm Clock’

Sheryl Crow has shared the music video for her latest, “Alarm Clock,” which she co-wrote with Emily Weisband and producer Mike Elizondo. ‘Alarm Clock’ is off Sheryl’s first album in six years, Evolution, due out on March 29th.

Evolution marks Crow’s 11th album, and comes as a surprise to fans given that Sheryl stated that she wasn’t releasing anymore full-length albums following 2018’s Threads. Said Crow: “I started sending just a couple of demos to Mike, but the songs just kept flowing out of me and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album. This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that … I did not want to produce myself this time. There’s a point where you get tired of what you do, you recognize your tricks, you despair of them. I didn’t want to deal with the emotional toil that goes into producing, the decisions, the effort, the time, being away from my kids. Mike loved the songs I sent him and wanted to produce. He brought a fresh approach and illustrated the songs in such a cinematic way, he’s so good with that. We did things quickly, the way old records were made, wrote the whole album in a month.”

Take a look at the video for ‘Alarm Clock’ – here.
