New John Lennon and Yoko Ono documentary “One to One: John & Yoko’ announced

A new feature documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s life in New York in the early 1970s has been announced. One to One: John & Yoko features newly transferred and restored 16mm film footage including Lennon’s only full-length concert performances after The Beatles, as well as previously unseen and unheard personal archives, including phone calls and home movies recorded and filmed by the couple themselves.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, One to One: John & Yoko comes over 50 years after The Beatles broke up, and Lennon was fatally shot in 1980 as he and Ono returned to their home in the Dakota building overlooking New York’s Central Park.  The film is described as “a moving look at the couple’s life upon their entry into a transformative 1970’s New York, exploring their musical, personal, artistic, social, and political world.”  At the core of the story are the One to One Concerts at Madison Square Garden, where Lennon was accompanied by Yoko Ono, The Plastic Ono Band, Elephant’s Memory and Special Guests. The remixed concert audio was produced by Sean Ono Lennon, who shared: “Kevin’s documentary brings completely fresh insight into my parents’ lives during their Bank Street and early New York years, showing first hand their unwavering dedication to promoting peace and non-violence during a turbulent era of unrest, corruption and unnecessary war.”

Set in 1972, the film was directed by Kevin Macdonald, who shares: “I wanted to make a film that surprises and delights even the most dedicated Lennon and Ono fans by focusing on one transformative period in their lives and telling the tale through their own words, images and music. Built around the beautiful 16mm film footage of the only full-length concert John gave after leaving the Beatles I hope the film will introduce the audience to a more intimate version of John and Yoko – while also reflecting their politically radical and experimental sides.”

No release date was revealed as of press time.

See Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in the trailer for the film adaptation of ‘It Ends With Us’

The first trailer for It Ends With Us, based on the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name, has been released offering fans a first look at Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in the title roles. The sneak peek is set to the Taylor Swift song “My Tears Ricochet,” which appears on the singer’s 2020 album, Folklore.

Blake Lively stars as Lily Bloom, who opens a flower shop with her friend Allysa (Jenny Slate).  Soon after, Allysa’s brother Ryle (Justin Baldoni) enters the picture, and the pair begin a whirlwind relationship.  Bloom is described as “a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business.”

The film synopsis reads: “A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.”

The 2016 novel ‘It Ends With Us’ took TikTok by storm in 2021, and is loosely based on Hoover’s own childhood and centers on themes of domestic abuse. Hoover said in an Instagram video shared in January 2023: “I just want everyone to know how appreciative I am to my mother, who got us out of a scary situation when I was a little girl and brought us here to this house which doesn’t look like much, but this house was full of love and joy. Thank you, Mom, for making that very difficult decision. This house holds nothing but wonderful memories for me .. We are now discussing a movie that’s made from a book that was loosely inspired by my mother. It’s bittersweet. So many people have had to go through that. But to know that my mom’s decision has helped so many people get out of that… I love you, Mom.”

It Ends With Us opens in theaters Aug. 9; see the trailer: here.
