Sting’s Power Rock Trio replacing Neil Young at 2024 ‘Bourbon & Beyond Festival’

Organizers of the Bourbon & Beyond Festival announced that Sting will make his debut at this year’s festival in Louisville, KY., replacing Neil Young.

Danny Wimmer, Founder of Danny Wimmer Presents, shared: “While we will miss Neil Young at Bourbon this year, we’re excited to welcome a music legend, Sting, to the Bourbon & Beyond lineup. We’ve been trying to bring Sting to Bourbon for you since 2018 and it’s an incredible honor to have him join us for what will undoubtedly be our biggest and most unforgettable year ever.”

Young and his backing band Crazy Horse dropped off the roster for the sixth edition of Bourbon & Beyond last month when the veteran group paused their Love Earth tour following an undisclosed illness within their touring party. In a statement, Young said at the time that when a “couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break.”

The former Police frontman and his new power rock trio, STING 3.0, will take the stage on Thursday night of the four-day fest, slated to take place on the Highland Festival Grounds at Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville from September 19-22. The trio — featuring guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas — will be joined that evening by Beck, Matchbox Twenty, Fleet Foxes, Maren Morris, Koe Wetzel, Lyle Lovett, the Wallflowers, Arlo Parks and many more.

In addition to Sting, Bourbon & Beyond 2024 will feature headlining performances from Zach Bryan, Dave Matthews Band, and Tyler Childers. Fleet Foxes, The War on Drugs, Black Pumas, Beck, The National, Matchbox 20, Maren Morris, Teddy Swims, Melissa Etheridge, The Beach Boys, My Morning Jacket, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Arlo Parks.

Slash mourns death of stepdaughter Lucy Bleu-Knight, 25

Slash is mourning the death of his stepdaughter Lucy Bleu-Knight, who died at the age of 25. In light of his stepdaughter’s death, the legendary guitarist has canceled four of his S.E.R.P.E.N.T. blues festival tour dates, but expects to be back on stage next weekend.

The Guns N’ Roses guitarist wrote in a statement on Instagram: “Lucy-Bleu Knight (December 6, 1998), beloved daughter of Meegan Hodges and Mark Knight, stepdaughter of Samantha Somers Knight and Slash, sister of Scarlet Knight, stepsister of London and Cash Hudson passed peacefully in Los Angeles, CA on July 19, 2024. Lucy-Bleu was a talented artist, a passionate dreamer, and a charming, lovable, sweet soul. The family asks for privacy at this time and requests that social media speculation be kept to a minimum as they grieve and process this devastating loss.”

Slash and Knight’s mother, Meegan Hodges, first dated in the late 1980s before ending their relationship; they later reunited in 2015. Hodges also confirmed the news of her daughter’s death on her social media account.

Knight’s final social media post was apparently pre-scheduled, and was posted to her Instagram account after her death. It read: “Whether I made you feel excluded, manipulated/ controlled you, told you to quit your day job from the comfort of being financially supported by my parents, or drowned real issues in toxic positivity-I am sorry … Countless missed opportunities and connections due to a disgustingly big ego, insecure heart and fear of being vulnerable. May my soul learn to evolve from my poor job at being Lucy-Bleu. Peace.”

Multiple outlets including The New York Post report that an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of Knight’s death.

Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortued Poets Department’ breaks Billboard record held by Whitney Houston for 37 years

Taylor Swift hit a new career-best milestone with her 11th studio album album, The Tortured Poets Department, which marked its 12th consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Per Billboard, TTPD also set a new precedent as it surpassed a record set by Whitney Houston’s 1987 self-titled LP, which spent its first 11 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 from its initial release date — making TTPD is the only album from a woman to spend its first 12 weeks at the No. 1 spot. Swift, 34, previously beat Houston’s Billboard 200 record for the most weeks ever spent at No. 1 on the chart with her 2020 album Folklore, which brought her career total to 47 (topping Houston’s previous record of 46). In addition, Swift also surpassed Houston’s record of having the fourth-most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 following the success of “Fortnight,” her 12th single atop the chart (per Forbes.)

Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has dominated the albums chart this year, with numerous additional versions of the album having been released across digital, vinyl, CDs and more. Swift is also still currently on the road with her record-breaking The Eras Tour.  Swift’s upcoming stops include Hamburg with shows on July 23 and 24, followed by two stops in Munich on July 27 and 28.  The global tour will finally come to an end in December after a rum of shows in the United States and Canada.
