Bob Dylan ‘The 1974 Live Recordings’ box set to be released in September

Bob Dylan announced details of a new box set called ‘The 1974 Live Recordings’ – a compilation of his arena performances across the year. The project is a new 431-track collection of his performances with The Band, which is set to be released across 27 discs on September 20th.

The deluxe box set features 417 previously-unreleased performances, as well as newly-mixed recordings and liner notes written by journalist and critic Elizabeth Nelson. A press release read: “Booked into arenas for the first time ever, Bob Dylan and The Band performed 30 dates in 42 days (often playing two sets per day) before an average audience of 18,500 – helping set a new standard for what rock concerts could look and sound like. Though they might not have known it at the time, Bob Dylan and The Band were at the vanguard of a new era. Tour ‘74 would help create the template for the major rock tour, and codify many of its shared experiences – from the sight of audiences holding up lighters en masse, to the bright flash of the house lights during a show’s signal moment, in this case their performance of ‘Like A Rolling Stone’.

Third Man Records has also announced the upcoming release of ‘The 1974 Live Recordings – The Missing Songs From Before the Flood’, a 3-LP set culled from the same recordings, featuring hand-selected versions of every song Bob Dylan recorded that was not included on the original 1974 live album.

In honor of the box set announcement, a never-before-released version of ‘Forever Young’ – recorded live in Seattle on February 9, 1974 – has been released. Check it out – here.

Donald Glover shares film trailer, drops soundtrack to ‘Bando Stone & The New World’

Donald Glover shared the trailer for his new movie Bando Stone & the New World, which he directed, starred in, and scored under his pseudonym, Childish Gambino. Bando Stone & the New World was written by Evi Wilder, produced by Glover’s creative studio, Gilga (in association with RCA Records), and executive produced by longtime creative partner Hiro Murai, as well as Fam Udeorji, Chad Taylor, Ibra Ake, and Javier Alejandro.

Glover revealed plans in April to release two more albums under his Childish Gambino alias. Together, they make their way through a dystopian, post-apocalyptic world filled with giant squids, emu-like birds, monsters, dinosaurs, sci-fi lasers, and more.

Glover – as Childish Gambino – will launch his New World Tour in Oklahoma City on Aug. 11, with support on select dates from Amaarae and Willow. The 33-stop North American leg wraps up in Chicago on Oct. 3, with the New World Tour marking Gambino’s first tour since 2019.

As I Lay Dying share video for the single “The Cave We Fear To Enter”

As I Lay Dying returns with their new single, The Cave We Fear To Enter, alongside the official music video directed by Tom Flynn, which you can check out: here.

The new track was co-produced by guitarist Phil Sgrosso and Hiram Hernandez, mixed by Aaron Chaparian and mastered by Ted Jensen. Vocalist Tim Lambesis shares: “This is the first time I’ve written lyrics based on an idea started by someone else in the band. Sometimes, when we try out different melodies, we’ll temporarily use words that just happen to fit as a placeholder. But in this song, Ryan [bass player/vocalist Ryan Neff] chose words that he felt represented what he had been processing leading up to the demo. It felt right for me leave that therapeutic expression in place. So, when I took over, the imagery of a cave where you face your fears came to mind. While I only know a little of Joseph Campbell’s work, the imagery brought to mind a quote of his that I remembered and used for inspiration as well.”

As I Lay Dying just kicked-off of their US headlining tour in northern California, with support from Chelsea Grin and Entheos.  They will then take their Through Storms Ahead Tour to Europe, beginning November 15th in Würzburg, Germany. For tickets and more information on all shows, visit the band’s official website.
