Soul Asylum shares “Freak Accident” from new LP ‘Slowly But Shirley’

Soul Asylum will release its 13th full-length studio album Slowly But Shirley on Sept. 27, and are previewing the studio-recorded version of the track “Freak Accident”, that’s long been a fan favorite.

Slowly But Shirley was recorded live by Dave Pirner, Ryan Smith, Jeremy Tappero, and Michael Bland at the Terrarium in Minneapolis. with the band teaming up once again with producer Steve Jordan (who worked on their 1990 album And the Horse They Rode In On).

A news release says that the album pays homage to Shirley “Cha Cha” Muldowney, a pioneering drag racer who inspired Pirner during his youth. He shared:  “When I was a kid, I loved drag racing, and she was the first woman of drag race. It meant a lot to me that she was willing to stand up against all these men in racing. My manager called her up, and she gave us her blessing, which means a whole lot to me because she was a childhood hero.”
