Queens of the Stone Age share trailer for ‘Alive in the Catacombs’ concert film

Queens of the Stone Age have announced a new concert film, ‘Alive in the Catacombs.’

The film documents a largely acoustic performance that the band, accompanied by a three piece string section, which was recorded in the Catacombs of Paris last July, around the time frontman Josh Homme underwent emergency surgery that led the group to cancel some tour dates.

Homme said in a press release: “We’re so stripped down because that place is so stripped down, which makes the music so stripped down, which makes the words so stripped down… It would be ridiculous to try to rock there. All those decisions were made by that space. That space dictates everything, it’s in charge. You do what you’re told when you’re in there.” He also described the catacombs’ several million human remains as “the biggest audience we’ve ever played for.”

Directed by Thomas Rames, the film will premiere June 5 via Queens of the Stone Age’s website.  See the ‘Alive in the Catacombs’ concert film trailer – HERE.

The Cure to release ‘Mixes of A Lost World’ remix album

The Cure dropped ‘Songs of A Lost World’ last year, their first new album in 16 years. Frontman Robert Smith teased at the time that a “companion album” was almost complete, as well as a “more experimental third album with really kind of random stuff, like late-night studio jams.”

Now in honor of Smith’s 66th birthday, a new release has been announced: ‘Mixes of A Lost World,’ a massive remix collection of Songs of A Lost World, featuring reinterpretations of the album’s tracks by artists including Four Tet, Paul Oakenfold, Chino Moreno, Mura Masa, Mogwai, The Twilight Sad, Orbital, Daniel Avery, 65daysofstatic, and more.  The album will be released with the standard edition offering two discs and the deluxe edition expanding to three. Royalties from the album will benefit War Child UK.

In a statement, Smith shared: “Just after Christmas, I was sent a couple of unsolicited remixes of Songs of A Lost World tracks, and I really loved them. The Cure has a colorful history with all kinds of dance music, and I was curious about how the whole album would sound reinterpreted by others. This curiosity led to a fantastic journey through all 8 songs, reworked by 24 incredible artists and remixers, and it’s way beyond anything I could’ve imagined. Giving our royalties from this project to War Child makes Mixes of A Lost World an even more special release.”
