Mudvayne release first new music in 16 years with two new tracks

Mudvayne have dropped “Hurt People Hurt People,” their first new song since the release of their self-titled album in 2009.

Hurt People Hurt People features frontman Chad Gray alongside guitarist Greg Tribbett, bassist Ryan Martinie, and drummer Matthew McDonough. Gray in a press release: Hurt People Hurt People’ has probably been around since the beginning of man. Certainly longer than the phrase ever existed. The endless cycle of projecting our pain onto others. I think I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to break the cycle. We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It’s time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with.”

Following the release of Hurt People Hurt People, the band also shared the song “Sticks and Stones.”  Gray shared of that track: “I was always told ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.’ Well, it’s a great nursery rhyme, but I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve carried a lot of words throughout my life as if they were just spoken to me. The reality is — they do hurt. I’ve tried my best to shed them, but when they come from dear friends, family — people that are supposed to love you — the words have teeth and they won’t let go. Blood doesn’t wash out; iit stains. I think I’m just trying to remind people to love their children. Don’t use them as a bullet to fire into your ex or whoever you’re with now. They’re innocent and they are impressionable. And trust me, as a child, that was used as a weapon, your words will hurt them…long after you say them.”

The band will also release a double A side seven-inch vinyl featuring both songs — a standard version, and a variant that is signed and limited to 500 units. Both are available exclusively through the band’s webstore alongside a new merch capsule. Head HERE for info.

Mudvayne just wrapped up a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their breakout debut, L.D. 50, alongside Static-X (who commemorated the 25th anniversary of their own debut record, Wisconsin Death Trip) with Vended serving as support on tour.

Tobias Menzies, Sophia Di Martino and more join cast of Apple TV+ series ‘Prodigies’

Apple TV+ has added eight new cast members to “Prodigies,” the streamer’s upcoming romantic comedy series created by Will Sharpe, and starring Sharpe opposite Ayo Edebiri.

Joining “Prodigies” are: Tobias Menzies (“F1: The Movie,” “You Hurt My Feelings,” “The Crown”), Sophia Di Martino (“Loki,” “Flowers”), Andrene Ward-Hammond (“Your Honor,” “English Teacher”), Yumi Asō (“Perfect Days,” “Angel Flight: Kokusai Reikyu Sokanshi”), Reece Shearsmith (“Inside No. 9,” “The League of Gentlemen”), Nabhaan Rizwan (“Kaos,” “In Camera”), Meera Syal (“Roar,” “The Wheel of Time”) and Lolly Adefope (“The Franchise,” “Ghosts”).

The new cast members join Rina Sawayama, the pop singer previously announced to be recurring in the role of Hana, Ren’s sister.

“Prodigies” follows a couple named Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe), who are described in the official logline as “two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?”

‘Tulsa King’ spinoff ‘NOLA King’ to star Samuel L. Jackson on Paramount+

Paramount+ has officially greenlit “NOLA King,” starring Samuel L. Jackson, a spinoff of its series “Tulsa King” starring Sylvester Stallone.

Jackson will play Russell Lee Washington, Jr., who will first be introduced in Tulsa King Season 3. The character is a prison friend of Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) sent by the Renzetti family to kill Dwight. Instead, Dwight inspires Washington to return to New Orleans after 40 years.

The official logline states: “‘NOLA King’ follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) during a ten-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty-years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family, friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of his former employers in New York, and makes himself vulnerable to old NOLA foes, both criminal and cop.”

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said in a statement: “Samuel L. Jackson brings unparalleled presence and global appeal, making him the perfect choice to maximize the momentum of one of our biggest hits and transform it into a hit franchise. Building on the breakout success of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Tulsa King,’ audiences will now experience the full force of Jackson’s dynamic, layered performance — supercharging one of Paramount+’s flagship series.”

Stallone said in a statement: “Chris McCarthy came to me with a game-changing idea: to elevate my show beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise. Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA.”

Jackson previously starred in the Apple TV+ limited series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey and reprised his Marvel role of Nick Fury in the Marvel-Disney+ show Secret Invasion.

“Tulsa King” is slated to premiere in September on Paramount+, with “NOLA King” reportedly planning to begin shooting in early 2026.
