Elton John expanding ‘Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy’ for 50th anniversary deluxe edition

Elton John’s autobiographical concept album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy will be re-released as an expanded 50th anniversary edition, to include rare sessions demos and live material; as well as stand-alone singles, including “Philadelphia Freedom” and his cover of the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” An accompanying 28-page booklet features never-before-seen entries from John’s personal diary.

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was Elton’s ninth studio album, first released in 1975 and remains one of his most successful records. The album was certified gold before its release and topped the Billboard 200 the week of its debut, going on to become a triple-platinum chart-topping smash — including the gold-selling Top 5 hit “Someone Saved My Life Tonight.”  Check out the previously unreleased performance of the title track from Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt CowboyHERE.

A press release reads: “‘Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy’ was written aboard The SS France – at the time, the world’s longest passenger liner – as Elton was taking the leisurely route back to the US for a breather in a very hectic year. With a sheaf of words already provided by lyricist Bernie Taupin, Elton wrote the music using downtime in the liner’s music room, the Salon Debussy, committing everything to memory as he didn’t have a tape recorder, before recording at Caribou Ranch with longtime producer Gus Dudgeon.”

Elton John in a statement: “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was the first album I’d ever made that was autobiographical, and it was the first time we’d gone into the studio with all the songs already written. We rehearsed it as a band, then went in and cut it more or less live. The band were at their absolute peak and you can hear it on the record. I think it’s the best thing we ever did. The songs were strong, Bernie’s lyrics were brilliant, and the atmosphere at Caribou was perfect. Seeing it go to Number One faster than anything I’d ever released felt like vindication, like the culmination of everything Bernie and I had fought for back in those bedsits in London.”

Bernie Taupin adds: “Of all our recorded output Captain Fantastic has a very special place in my heart. Obviously it was emotionally rewarding as it chronicled a very special time in our lives. I’m not by nature one to wallow in nostalgia but hearing this album once again 50 years on reminds me of how very deep our bond of friendship and creativity ran.”

Captain Fantastic (50th Anniversary Edition) is due out on Oct. 24 in 2LP, 2CD and digital formats. To preorder, head HERE.

Yungblud, 28, took to social media to announce the EP, writing, “Long live rock n roll music. Love forever, Aerosmith and Yungblud.” The accompanying post featured a variation on the classic Aerosmith winged logo, with the veteran rock band’s name replaced by a skull.

Five Finger Death Punch shares ‘The End’ featuring Babymetal

Five Finger Death Punch are previewing their newly announced Best Of – Vol. 2 collection by teaming up with Babymetal on a new version of their song “The End,” taken from the band’s 2022 album AfterLife.

Babymetal’s Su-Metal shares, “Five Finger Death Punch and Babymetal had performed at the same festival overseas back in 2015, so I was really happy thinking they might have remembered me from then. I sang Japanese lyrics inspired by and based on the original lyrics of ‘The End’ and spent a lot of time experimenting to figure out what kind of voice would best suit such a deep, cool track.”

She adds, “My favorite part of the song is the flow from the section starting with ‘Negai o kakete’ right after the chorus into the break — I loved how my voice gradually got covered and engulfed by Ivan [Moody]’s growl, which gave me chills. I hope listeners will enjoy that moment as well.”

Five Finger Death Punch’s Best Of — Vol. 2 collection features 16-tracks, centering more on music from the latter portion of FFDP’s career.  ‘Vol. 2’ is comprised of newly recorded versions of  “I Apologize,” “Trouble,” “Sham Pain,” “Gone Away,” “Blue On Black” and “When the Seasons Change” along with live versions of “Wash It All Away,” “Wrong Side of Heaven” and “Jekyll and Hyde.”

Five Finger Death Punch’s Best Of — Vol. 2 arrives Oct. 24; preorder: HERE.

Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton dies at 79

Diane Keaton, the beloved and trailblazing actress whose career defined generations of cinema, has died at the age of 79.

Keaton’s death was confirmed by producer Dori Rath, who had previously collaborated with her.  The cause of death has not yet been disclosed. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, emergency responders were called to Keaton’s Brentwood residence at approximately 8:08 a.m. Saturday morning following a request for medical assistance. Paramedics transported one individual to a nearby hospital, and a law enforcement source later confirmed that the person taken for treatment was Keaton.

Keaton rose to prominence in the 1970s, first captivating audiences as Kay Adams in The Godfather series and later as Woody Allen’s quirky, endearing muse in films such as Play It Again, Sam, Sleeper, and the romantic classic Annie Hall. Her performance in Annie Hall earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1978, cementing her place among Hollywood’s greats.

Celebrated for her distinctive wit, charm, and effortlessly original fashion sense, Keaton enjoyed a career that spanned six decades and crossed generational lines. Her memorable roles included hits like Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give, and the more recent Book Club films.

Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she was the eldest of four siblings. She honed her craft at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and made her Broadway debut in the countercultural musical Hair. Beyond her acting accomplishments, Keaton was also a director, producer, photographer, and bestselling author, known for her creativity and authenticity both on and off screen.

Tributes from colleagues and friends began flooding in shortly after news of her passing broke. Actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who starred alongside Keaton in Father of the Bride, called the experience “one of the highlights of my life.”

Williams-Paisley wrote in an Instagram post honoring Keaton: “Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life. You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter. 🙏🏻🕊💔❤❤❤

Actress Mary Steenburgen described Keaton as “magic,”writing in a statement: “There was no one, nor will there ever be, anyone like her. I loved her and felt blessed to be her friend. My love to her family. What a wonder she was!!!”

Goldie Hawn also remembered her ‘The First Wives Club’ costar with an emotional tribute to her longtime friend: “Diane, we aren’t ready to lose you. You’ve left us with a trail of fairy dust, filled with particles of light and memories beyond imagination. How do we say goodbye? What words can come to mind when your heart is broken? You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can’t tell me to ‘shut up’ honey. There was, and will be, no one like you … We agreed to grow old together, and one day, maybe live together with all our girlfriends. Well, we never got to live together, but we did grow older together. Who knows… maybe in the next life.Shine your fairy dust up there, girlfriend. I’m going to miss the hell out of you.”

Bette Midler also celebrated Keaton in a tribute, writing: “The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!”

Keaton is survived by her two children, Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25. Her final Instagram post, shared on April 11, featured a warm photo of her with her cherished Golden Retriever, Reggie — a fitting glimpse into the private, heartfelt side of an actress who spent her life bringing joy to others.
