Nick Reiner, son of Rob and Michelle Reiner, arrested on suspicion of murder in their deaths

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed that Nick Reiner, the younger son of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, producer Michele Singer Reiner, is being held on suspicion of murder following their deaths.

Reiner, 32, was as booked at the LAPD jail and was originally being held on $4 million bail; however an update later in the day from the LAPD said he was being held without bail. At a press conference on Monday morning, LAPD Chief McDonnell confirmed that Nick Reiner had been “booked for murder.. a very, very tragic incident.”  Police arrested Nick Reiner on Sunday for the stabbing deaths of his parents, online records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicated. The arrest came just hours after the Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the Reiner home around 3:30 p.m. PST Sunday after a family member discovered the couple, who were found dead from multiple stab wounds. Sources told ABC News that it was the Reiners’ daughter Romy who found her parents’ bodies on Sunday.

Nick Reiner, 32, has a long history with drug addiction, beginning his teens. In an interview with People in 2016, Nick shared that he spent weeks homeless and was in and out of rehab for addiction treatment that began when he was 15. Reiner’s struggles with addiction led him to co-write the 2016 film “Being Charlie,” directed by Rob Reiner and featuring actor Cary Elwes (who appeared in Reiner’s classic “The Princess Bride.”). The plot focuses on a young man struggling with addiction who has been in and out of rehab.

The Reiner family said in a statement after news broke of the couple’s death: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Rob Reiner, the son of director/comedian Carl Reiner, was first know for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic, on the CBS sitcom ‘All in the Family,’ where he won Emmys as best supporting actor in a comedy in 1974 and 1978. Reiner went on to become an acclaimed director, with some of his most notable work including “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand By Me,” “The Princess Bride,” “A Few Good Men,” “Misery,” and “When Harry Met Sally…”.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally… , and the couple married in 1989. They are survived by two other children, son Jake Reiner and daughter Romy. Rob Reiner also adopted his daughter, Tracy Reiner, during his marriage to late actress/director Penny Marshall.

‘General Hospital’ icon Anthony Geary dies at age 78

Television and soap opera icon Anthony Geary has died at the age of 78. Geary passed away on Sunday, December 14 from complications following a planned surgery three days earlier.

Geary played anti-hero Luke Spencer on-and-off for 40 years on ‘General Hospital’ from 1978-2017. The eight-time Daytime Emmy winner (and 16x nominee) appeared in 1,997 episodes of the soap before officially retiring from the role in 2015 (he also made a cameo appearance in an episode in 2017). Geary went on to move to Amsterdam full-time with his husband, Claudio Gama, who were married in 2019.

TV Insider was first to report the news of Geary’s death. The actor got his big break as the iconic Luke Spencer in 1978 on ABC’s long-running soap opera ‘General Hospital,’ changing the face of daytime television forever. The character was originally only supposed to appear on the show for a 13-week stint, but Geary’s immediate popularity and his unique acting style kept him on the show for years. After pairing Geary with Genie Francis’ “Laura,” the couple’s on-screen chemistry and popularity brought the soap opera to immense popularity. The love story of ‘Luke and Laura’, while controversial, became a part of 80s pop culture, with the actors appearing on the cover of Newsweek and the wedding of Luke and Laura become the most-watched episode in soap history, drawing over 30 million viewers – a record that remains until this day.

Geary also made history by winning the Daytime Emmy for ‘Outstanding Lead Actor’ in a Daytime Drama Series eight times – in 1982, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, and his last in 2015 – the most of any performer.

Just weeks before his death, Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama posted a video showing Geary watching his longtime co-star Genie Francis (Laura) being interviewed by his other former colleague Maurice Benard (Sonny) on Bernard‘s ‘State of Mind’ podcast. Gama wrote in the caption: “It really made Tony very happy. He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.’”

Gama said in a statement regarding his husband’s passing: “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”
