Netflix secures new Matthew McConaughey, Cole Hauser drama from creator Nic Pizzolatto

Netflix has landed a new high-profile scripted series featuring Matthew McConaughey and Cole Hauser, emerging victorious after a competitive bidding process. The project, now in early development, reunites creator Nic Pizzolatto with McConaughey, though sources say final agreements for the two leads are still being finalized. Few story details have been disclosed, other than that the pair would portray brothers. Skydance Sports is on board to produce.

Variety confirmed that the project will extends McConaughey’s creative partnership with Pizzolatto, a collaboration that began with the celebrated first season of “True Detective.” The two previously planned to work together again on FX’s “Redeemer,” which did not proceed. More recently, McConaughey has been attached to star in a feature based on the “Mike Hammer” novels, with Pizzolatto writing the script.

This project also adds to a run of “True Detective”–related reunions for McConaughey. He recently wrapped production on the Apple TV+ comedy “Brothers,” in which he appears with longtime friend and former Season 1 co-star Woody Harrelson. The show draws inspiration from their real-life relationship.

Hauser, meanwhile, continues to build on the success of his breakout role as Rip Wheeler in Paramount’s “Yellowstone.” He and castmate Kelly Reilly are set to headline an upcoming franchise spinoff that has enlisted Oscar nominee Annette Bening.

Pizzolatto remains best known for creating “True Detective,” but his work spans fiction and film. His novels have been published in more than 30 languages, and his industry accolades include multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and two Writers Guild Awards.

Moby to release new album, ‘Future Quiet’

Moby has announced his new album, titled Future Quiet, will be released on February 20th. The project marks Moby’s 23rd studio album, and is the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Everything Is Wrong. ’

Future Quiet features a variety of guest collaborators across 11 tracks, led by a reimagined version of his Stranger Things viral song, ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die’, in collaboration with Gabriels’ Jacob Lusk. The song was originally sung by Mimi Goese, and has enjoyed a streaming resurgence when it featured on the first and fourth season of hit Netflix series Stranger Things.

Moby (real name Richard Melville Hall) shares that the album “is, not surprisingly, quiet. To be clear; I love bombast. I love excess and volume. But as the world gets louder and crazier I find myself needing the refuge of quiet, both as a listener and as a musician. For me, and hopefully for others, Future Quiet is a refuge. The world, self-evidently, is more demanding than it’s ever been. The world screams at us, our screens scream at us, other people scream at us, and to retreat from the screaming we need safety and refuge. That for me is the goal of ‘Future Quiet.’ Writing and recording it was a refuge for me, and I hope that listening to it is a refuge for you.”

Regarding the new collaboration with Jacob Lusk, Moby shared, “Like anyone who’s heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. After hearing him sing on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and begging him to work with me. And, lucky me, he agreed. The results speak for themselves, as his vocals on ‘When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die’ are, I say with something approaching objectivity, transcendent.”

FX limited series ‘Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette’ to debut Feb. 12

The premiere date for the inaugural season of Ryan Murphy‘s newest anthology series, Love Story, is set for Feb. 12.

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette is an adaptation of Elizabeth Beller’s book, ‘Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.’ The logline for the series reads: “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette charts the complex and heartbreaking journey of a couple whose private love became a national obsession.”

In the newly released trailer, JFK Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly), President John F. Kennedy’s only son, is described as America’s “most eligible bachelor.” He falls in love with Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) – described as “a confident and independent woman who rose from being a sales assistant to an executive at Calvin Klein, and became a trusted confidante of its eponymous founder.”

Kennedy, 38, married Bessette, 33, in 1996. The couple died in 1999, along with Carolyn’s older sister Lauren, in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., in 1999. The series will also feature Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Leila George as Kelly Klein, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette and Constance Zimmer as Ann Marie Messina.

An official series synopsis reads: “It was a love story that captured the attention of the nation: John F. Kennedy Jr. was the closest thing to American royalty. The country watched him grow from a boy to a beloved bachelor and media sensation. Carolyn Bessette was a star in her own right. Fiercely independent and with a singular style, she rose from being a sales assistant to an executive at Calvin Klein, and became a trusted confidante of its eponymous founder. John and Carolyn’s connection was immediate, electric and undeniable. As their love story unfolded on a national stage, the intense fame and media attention that came along with it threatened to rip them apart.”

Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette premieres with three episodes on February 12 on FX and Hulu, after which one new episode of the nine-episode series will be released each subsequent Thursday.

3 Doors Down founder and lead singer Brad Arnold dies at 47 after cancer battle

Brad Arnold, the founder and longtime lead singer of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at age 47 following his battle with kidney cancer.

The band confirmed the news Saturday, sharing in a statement: “With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on.”

Beyond his music, Arnold was remembered for his character and devotion to family. “He was a devoted husband to Jennifer, and his kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him,” the band said. “Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

Arnold revealed in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs. In a video message to fans, he addressed the diagnosis directly, saying, “Hey everybody, it’s Brad from 3 Doors Down. I hope you’re having a great day today,” before explaining the severity of his illness. Despite the outlook, Arnold expressed unwavering faith, adding, “We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really sincerely am not scared of it at all.” The diagnosis ultimately forced the band to cancel its summer tour.

Born in Escatawpa, Mississippi, Arnold co-founded 3 Doors Down in 1996 alongside guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell. Originally serving as both drummer and vocalist, Arnold became the driving creative force behind the band’s rise. He wrote the group’s breakout hit, “Kryptonite,” when he was just 15 years old. Released in 2000, the song earned a Grammy nomination and helped propel the band’s debut album, The Better Life, to six-times platinum status.

Over the years, the band faced personal losses and challenges, including the death of Roberts in 2016 and Harrell’s departure following legal troubles. Arnold himself was open about his past struggles with alcoholism, later sharing that a decade of sobriety marked “the best years” of his life.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Jennifer.
