Fifth and final season of ‘Hacks’ to premiere April 9 on HBO Max

The acclaimed comedy series Hacks is preparing for its final act. HBO Max has confirmed that the show’s fifth season — its last — will debut April 9, with the series wrapping up on May 28.

Led by Emmy winners Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, the story picks up after false reports mistakenly declared Deborah Vance dead. Shaken but undeterred, Deborah and Ava head back to Las Vegas, determined to cement Deborah’s legacy in comedy. As the official synopsis states: “In the aftermath of mistaken and unflattering news reports that she passed away, Deborah Vance (Smart) and Ava (Einbinder) return to Las Vegas more determined than ever to secure Deborah’s legacy as a comedian.”

The farewell season will span 10 episodes, released weekly, with two double-episode drops scheduled before the finale. The decision to conclude the series now doesn’t come as a shock — the creative team, including Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, had long envisioned a five-season arc. Downs previously shared that the ending had been mapped out years ago, with the final scene in mind since 2015.

Since its debut in 2021, Hacks has built a strong legacy of its own, earning widespread critical praise and multiple awards, including several Emmy wins for Smart and recognition for its writing, directing, and overall excellence as a comedy series.

Season 5 brings back familiar faces like Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo, along with a lineup of guest stars including Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, and Christopher McDonald.

Social Distortion returns with ‘Born to Kill,’ first album in 15 years

After 15 years between releases, Social Distortion is back with a new studio album, Born to Kill, arriving May 8. The album features 11 tracks and marks the band’s eighth full-length and their first since 2011’s Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. It also stands as their first project since frontman Mike Ness was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2023.

A press statement describes the release as “11 songs of pure, unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll fury, joy and catharsis, all imbued with the signature blend of defiance and world-weariness that has made founder Mike Ness a poet and sage to the dispossessed for more than 40 years.” It also notes, “The first Social Distortion album since Ness’ recovery from a bout with cancer, Born To Kill brims with aggressive optimism. The album wastes no time letting the listener know where its heart is, with its title track and mission statement dropping nods to Lou Reed (‘Rock ’n’ Roll Animal gonna come your way!’) and Iggy and the Stooges (‘The agenda is yeah to Search and Destroy’) and an homage to David Bowie (“It’s a Rock ’n’ Roll Suicide”) following a few songs later on ‘Partners in Crime.’”

Social Distortion is previewing the album with the released of the title track, “Born To Kill,” along with an official music video.  In support of the album, the band will headline a North American tour beginning August 25 in Phoenix and wrapping October 3 in San Diego. Descendents and The Chats will serve as support on tour.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

Album pre-orders, including vinyl and CD editions, are available through the band’s official website.

‘Project Hail Mary’ tops the box office with record-breaking $80.6M opening weekend

Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling, soared to the top of the North American box office with an impressive debut of about $80.5–$80.6 million. The sci-fi adventure not only claimed the No. 1 spot by a wide margin, but also delivered the biggest opening of the year so far.

The film’s launch marks a milestone for Amazon MGM Studios, setting a new record for the company and surpassing the previous high set by Creed III. It also outpaced earlier 2026 releases, including Scream 7. Strong reviews and enthusiastic audience reactions helped push ticket sales beyond early projections, with the movie earning a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” grade from CinemaScore audiences.

Adapted from Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, the big-budget film—directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller—follows a scientist on a high-stakes mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. With a production cost around $200 million, its long-term performance will be key to turning a profit. Internationally, the movie added $60.4 million from 82 markets, bringing its global total to roughly $140.9 million.

“We believe deeply in the Hail Mary, and it’s clear audiences do as well,” says Amazon MGM’s distribution chief Kevin Wilson. “What we’re seeing in theaters — the energy, the exit scores, the word of mouth — is everything we believed this film would deliver.”

Far behind in second place, Hoppers brought in $18 million, followed by Dhurandhar The Revenge with $9.6 million. Ready or Not: Here I Come and Reminders of Him rounded out the top five with $9.1 million and $8 million, respectively.

The rest of the top 10 included Scream 7 ($4.3 million), GOAT ($3.5 million), Undertone ($3 million), Wuthering Heights ($475,000), and Avatar: Fire and Ash ($280,000).

Jimmy Eat World sets ‘Bleed American’ 25th anniversary tour

Jimmy Eat World will embark on the ‘Bleed American’ tour, to celebrate the landmark album’s 25th anniversary this year.

Bleed American (or the self-titled album) was the band’s fourth studio effort and featured the singles: “Bleed American,” “Sweetness,” and “The Middle,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The tour will kick-off June 9 at Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater, making additional stops in Illinois, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, Utah, California, Ontario, Arizona and Texas before wrapping up November 14 at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheater in Tampa, Florida (ahead of their final Warped Tour play in Orlando.)

An assortment of special guests will accompany the band on the road, including Rise Against, Hot Mulligan, Sunny Day Real Estate, Thrice, Motion City Soundtrack, Mom Jeans, Minus the Bear, The Get Up Kids, PUP, Sparta, Hey Mercedes, Girls Against Boys, Illuminati Hotties, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, and Jay Som.

The band will play the whole album, but probably not in sequence. Lead singer/guitarist Jim Adkins told Billboard that the album “changed our lives. It put us on a map. It gave us a new, broad audience of people that found something in it that they connected with. People have grown up with this record, right alongside us growing up, and I feel like it’s important to celebrate it. It’s important to acknowledge to people that we appreciate that, despite the obvious commerce involved. When we printed the last mix of Bleed American, we felt like we had achieved something great for ourselves. There was no barometer of how it would connect with people outside of the studio, and we are still in awe with the life the record and songs have had since their original release. Bleed American is as much yours as it is ours, so we want to celebrate it with you all in a very special way.”

Drummer Zach Lind shares that the tour feels like a second chance to show appreciation to the fans, with Adkins echoing the sentiment: “I feel like at this time in our lives, especially for me, it’s important to get back to a place that you can savor. This tour is designed to be an elevated version of our show, a heightened experience with production that reflects 25 years of learning how to stretch artistically in the live environment.”

Megan Thee Stallion to star in Broadway musical ‘Moulin Rouge!’

Grammy-winning rap star Megan Thee Stallion is adding Broadway to her résumé. Megan will make her stage debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, stepping into the role of nightclub owner Harold Zidler for a limited engagement from March 24 through May 17 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

A social media post announcing the news reads: “Thee hottest news on Broadway❣🎩”. Megan said in a statement: “Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”

Based on Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film, the jukebox musical blends contemporary hits into a love story set in Paris’ Montmartre district.  Megan Thee Stallion’s casting marks the first time a female-identifying performer has played Zidler in any production of the show worldwide. The part was originated on Broadway by Tony winner Danny Burstein, with later turns by Boy George, Tituss Burgess, Wayne Brady and Bob the Drag Queen.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic said in a statement: “Welcoming Megan Thee Stallion into the ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ community is a thrilling moment for us. Megan is a true global superstar. She is one of the most influential artists of her generation and her impact on music and culture is undeniable. This historic casting is a major part of our closing celebrations: our farewell gift to Broadway audiences and one of our biggest announcements in the history of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. We want our show to go out with a spectacular bang, and Megan is the force of nature to lead us there. And yes, there will be a hint of music from her own iconic catalogue. It’s an unmissable moment for both Megan’s fans and ours.”

Since opening in 2019, Moulin Rouge! The Musical has become one of Broadway’s longer-running hits. The show is set to close July 26 after more than seven years and over 2,200 performances, ending its run on a high note with one of hip-hop’s biggest names leading the curtain call.

‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ renewed for two more seasons

Drew Barrymore’s daytime talk show will remain on the air for at least two more years, after landing a two-season renewal that extends the program through the 2027–28 television season.

The announcement was shared on the show’s official social media: “We’re so excited to announce that we’ve been renewed for not one, but TWO more seasons!” Barrymore also celebrated the news personally, writing on Instagram Stories, “I’m so grateful and so excited!”

Launched in 2020 and filmed in New York, the syndicated series blends celebrity interviews with lifestyle discussions and human-interest stories. Since its debut, the show has steadily built an audience and digital following. This season has become its most-watched yet, averaging about 1.6 million viewers per day while reaching roughly 14 million followers across social media platforms.

Executive producer Jason Kurtz credited Barrymore’s personality for the program’s appeal, stating: “Drew is the original influencer — a true trendsetter and culture-driving force who has consistently stayed ahead of the conversation. The success of this show is rooted in the fact that Drew shows up as her unfiltered, authentic self every single day, continually challenging the conventions of daytime television and reimagining what the format can be in a multiplatform world.”

Stations owned by CBS, along with outlets operated by Sinclair and Nexstar, have signed on for the new seasons. The pickup will carry the program through its seventh and eighth seasons, and it is also receiving improved time slots in several major markets, including Seattle and Minneapolis–St. Paul, as well as cities such as Cleveland, Charlotte, Baltimore, Kansas City and Cincinnati.

The show’s success arrives during a period of change in daytime television, with several other programs preparing to end their runs later this year, including The Kelly Clarkson Show and Sherri. At the same time, The Jennifer Hudson Show has also recently secured a renewal.

Jack Black returning to host ‘SNL’ with Jack White as musical guest on April 4th episode

NBC long-running sketch show ‘Saturday Night Live’ announced on social media that Jack Black will return to host the April 4 episode, with rock musician Jack White appearing as the musical guest.

The appearance marks Black’s fifth time hosting the NBC comedy series, putting him in the show’s well-known five-timers club. His return comes less than a year after his last stint on April 5, 2025, following a long gap — nearly two decades — between his third and fourth hosting appearances.

Meanwhile, White will make his sixth appearance as SNL’s musical guest. The former frontman of The White Stripes last performed on the show in 2023 and also appeared during the show’s 50th anniversary homecoming concert in 2025.

The two performers have collaborated before. In 2018, White worked with Black’s band Tenacious D on the track “Don’t Blow It, Kage,” which was recorded at White’s Nashville studio and playfully credited to “Jack Gray.”

The upcoming episode will follow the broadcast that saw pop star and actor Harry Styles handled both hosting duties and musical performances. The April broadcast will be part of a short run of new episodes, before another brief break ahead of the season’s final shows in May.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
