Depeche Mode reveal cause of death for founding member Andy Fletcher

Depeche Mode co-founder and keyboardist Andy Fletcher died at the age of 60 last month; and at the time the announcement was made, no cause of death was revealed.  On Monday, Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore and Dave Gahan shared a statement on their Instagram account (see the full statement here) about Fletcher’s death.  The duo said (on behalf of Fletcher’s family) that the musician “suffered an aortic dissection while at home on May 26.”

The Depeche Mode duo shared that there was a ceremony held in Fletcher’s honor last week: “We had a celebration of Andy’s life in London last week, which was a beautiful ceremony and gathering with a few tears, but filled with the great memories of who Andy was, stories of all of our times together, and some good laughs. Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. All being together was a very special way to remember Andy and see him off.”

Gore and Gahan also thanked fans for their support, writing that it was “incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you.”

Tommy Lee’s wife Brittany Furlan reveals how the Mötley Crüe drummer broke his ribs

Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has been on the road with ‘The Stadium Tour’ all while playing with broken ribs.  Lee has discussed his medical condition on the band’s tour stops to explaining why Tommy Clufetos has been filling in on drums during a portion of the band’s sets; however, the exact nature of what caused the injury had not been addressed.

Now Lee’s wife, Brittany Furlan, has shared the story how Lee broke his ribs, posting a video on Snapchat that has since been circulating online.  Furlan said: “Everyone keeps asking how Tommy broke his ribs, so I’m just gonna tell you. We were staying at an old rental house in Nashville. It was a cool, old quirky house. But the stairs outside were made out of stones, and they were really uneven, and the roots were pushing them up from the tree. And everything was fine. I actually fell up the stairs a few times getting groceries, but whatever. So, the day that we were leaving Nashville, our driver came and we had all this luggage and he wasn’t helping us; he just stayed in the car. And so Tommy was trying to carry all of our luggage for us. And he fell down these crazy stairs and broke — broke — four ribs. Not fractured, not bruised — broke. And it was crazy, ’cause I came out and he couldn’t breathe. It was really scary. He was on the ground [and] he was gasping for air. And he got on a plane that day still and went and did the rest of rehearsals [for the tour] in Pennsylvania. He went to the hospital in Pennsylvania when we landed and they were, like, ‘You have four broken ribs.’ And they wanted to keep him there, but they he did not wanna stay. And he’s just a fighter. He’s the toughest guy I know. I mean, look at all his tattoos; he just really fights through the pain. Anyway, that’s what happened.”

Mötley Crüe will continue touring through the summer with Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett and Classless Act; for tickets for the upcoming shows, head here.

Rage Against The Machine to donate $475,000 to reproductive rights organizations

In a statement posted on their Instagram account, Rage Against The Machine expressed their disgust with Friday’s Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, the long-standing precedent that protected a pregnant woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.

The band said: “We are disgusted by the repeal of Roe V. Wade and the devastating impact it will have on tens of millions of people. Over half of the country (26 states) is likely to ban or seriously restrict abortion very soon, if not immediately, which will have a disproportionate impact on poor, working class and undocumented BIPOC communities.”  Rage continued that they’re going to donate $475,000 raised from the sale of charity tickets from their first two shows in East Troy, Wisconsin and Chicago, respectively, to reproductive rights organizations in those states: “Like the many women who have organized sophisticated railroads of resistance to challenge these attacks on our collective reproductive freedom, we must continue to resist.”

In an Instagram post of his own, Tom Morello added that his great grandmother died from an “illegal, unsafe abortion.” He added that his great grandfather couldn’t afford to raise their children and had to send them off to other families who would use them as servants.

Rage Against the Machine will finally kick off their reunion tour that has been over two years in the making, performing their first shows since July 2011.
